Chapter 114 Blind Date Scene
Chapter 114 Blind Date Scene
Guan Juer had just sat down when she saw Zhang Liangjun, who had just looked up. "Brother Zhang! What are you doing here!"
Zhang Liangjun deliberately kept his head down so Guan Juer wouldn't recognize him. Finally, he witnessed Guan Juer's expression shift rapidly from initial resistance to surprise, then to delight—a brief but complex change. Her face seemed to be on fast-forward, her eyes constantly rounding and curving. Zhang Liangjun regretted not being able to record this moment with his digital camera. The surveillance footage might not be able to perfectly capture it; what a pity!
"Guan Guan, we meet again!" Compared to Guan Ju'er's outburst, Zhang Liangjun was much more composed and calm.
Yang Xiuyuan asked, "Xiaojun, do you know each other?"
Zhang Liangjun nodded and explained, "Yes, we've known each other for a while now. I bought an apartment in Ode to Joy, right above Guan Guan and the others. I bought the 22nd floor, and Guan Guan lives on the 20th floor."
Guan's mother pulled Guan Juer, who had jumped up in surprise, back into her chair. "Now that we know each other, that's even better!"
Chair: "O(n_n)O"
“Brother Zhang, you…” Guan Juer glanced at the three parents, feeling a little hesitant to ask, and after a moment’s hesitation, asked in English, “Mr. Zhang, are we on a blind date?”
Zhang Liangjun responded in English, "Of course it's a blind date!"
Hearing such a definite answer, Guan Juer's face quickly turned red, too embarrassed to look at Zhang Liangjun again. This blind date might actually be worth considering; she wasn't so averse to it anymore. What should she do?
Although Yang Xiuyuan didn't understand their conversation, Guan Juer's behavior was too obvious, and she was quite satisfied with Guan Juer. She was quiet, well-behaved, knowledgeable and reasonable, which perfectly matched her image of a daughter-in-law! Moreover, she seemed to have a good impression of Zhang Liangjun.
Yang Xiuyuan smiled and said to Guan Juer, "Guan Guan, are you hungry? Have some snacks first. We've already ordered the dishes, but you can choose a few more that you like!" This was actually an expression of satisfaction.
Guan's mother reached out to stop her at the right moment, "No need, we've already ordered, that's enough! Our Guan Guan is very easy to please."
Guan Juer wanted to cover her face!
Zhang Liangjun changed the subject, "Guan Guan, don't you have to work overtime today?"
"I was supposed to work overtime, but I took one night off!" Guan Juer's answer was so calm it was heartbreaking. Working overtime has become the norm these days; do you have to take leave even if you don't work overtime?
“There’s no need to push yourself so hard! You should rest when you need to. If there’s anything you’re unsure about, you can call me like you did last time!” Zhang Liangjun picked up the teapot and refilled everyone’s teacups.
Guan Juer laughed, "Okay, as long as Brother Zhang doesn't find me troublesome."
Yang Xiuyuan also said, "What's the trouble? When you're young, you should also take care of your health! No matter what, health is more important than career! As your parents, we only have one thought: we hope you can live peacefully and smoothly! Don't you agree?"
Mrs. Qu nodded, "Yes, when I was home, I kept complaining about her father, insisting that Guan Guan go to that Huaxin Securities! If you ask me, she should find a reliable man..."
"Cough! Cough!" A middle-aged man with a large belly suddenly coughed.
"Dad, have some water to soothe your throat!" Guan Juer promptly served tea.
Zhang Liangjun noticed that there was still one person being ignored, so he took the initiative to strike up a conversation, "I heard that you are also a government official? I wonder which department you are in?"
"I'm currently the director of the Yancheng Investment Promotion Bureau." Guan's father's name is Guan Hongtao, and you could tell from his tone that he was quite satisfied with his current position.
"China Merchants Group is great! Unlike my dad's family, who's always so busy and doesn't get home until late!" Versailles skill on cooldown...
Guan Hongtao became interested, "Who is your father?"
"He's in Daishan, the deputy mayor! He's always busy!" Zhang Liangjun didn't know if he had retired in the original drama, but a few years ago, he did face some crises and almost had to step down. However, thanks to Zhang Liangjun's financial power, he managed to turn the situation around. As a result, Zhang Liangjun now owns an electronics factory.
"It's good that you're busy! Being busy shows how important your father is! Xiaojun, I heard you started a company, what exactly does it do?" Guan Hongtao didn't want to talk about government affairs anymore, so he quickly changed the subject.
"I run a game company, mainly focused on game development and promotion." Actually, Zhang Liangjun's assets are now practically worthless, and he no longer pays much attention to the game company. When he goes to the company, it's just to learn computer programming techniques from a few senior programmers in the technical department.
"A high-tech enterprise! Young and promising! Not bad, not bad!" Guan Hongtao wanted to end the conversation; this kid just didn't seem likeable! You little thief, you're finished, you know that?
"Brother Zhang, you... own a company?" Guan Juer thought she had misheard. "Didn't you work at a game company?"
Zhang Liangjun explained to Guan Juer, "Hehe, I do work for a game company, but I founded that company."
Guan Juer thought to herself, "So Sister Fan was right! Brother Zhang really is a rich man!"
When the food was served, Zhang Liangjun poured Guan Hongtao a glass of wine, then poured one for himself, while neither of the mothers drank. Guan Juer, wanting to maintain her role as a good girl, also didn't drink.
To be honest, the food at this restaurant was rather average, lacking any particularly distinctive flavors. Of course, since their main focus is tea, we can't really criticize them for that.
At the dinner table, Zhang Liangjun and Guan Hongtao drank and discussed the international situation. Zhang Liangjun used a hindsight perspective to help Guan Hongtao clear away the fog, analyzed the situation, and even hinted at several industries that would be very profitable in the next few years. He suggested that Guan Hongtao consider these industries when attracting investment, as success in these ventures would be a significant achievement.
The two mothers and Guan Juer talked about parenting. Guan Juer mainly listened and learned from their experiences, while also preventing the mothers from getting too excited and telling embarrassing stories from their childhood!
However, Guan Juer also gained something else; she witnessed another side of Zhang Liangjun. A teacher had hinted to Yang Xiuyuan that Zhang Liangjun's studies were far ahead of his time and he could skip a grade, but Zhang Liangjun refused. His reason was that he wanted to solidify his foundation so he could become the top scholar in the imperial examinations!
The term "top scorer" carries much more weight than "skipping a grade." I used to think Lin was a very impressive student, but after chatting with Andy on the bus, I learned that Andy skipped two grades. Compared to that, Lin seems insignificant. He only got into an ordinary university after skipping grades, so why did he skip grades in the first place?
Now that she knew Zhang Liangjun had actually almost won the top scholar title, Guan Juer's gaze became even more intense.
Guan Juer, of course, had no idea that this was Zhang Liangjun's third attempt, and he still hadn't succeeded! Zhang Liangjun had already decided to give up! If he kept trying so hard, he'd be a dog!
