Chapter 67 Questioning
Chapter 67 Questioning
"Have you really fallen for her?" Gu Jia stood up unsteadily in pain, and had to hold onto the table to avoid falling to the ground.
Xu Huanshan took the opportunity to hug Gu Jia, saying, "Wife, I was wrong. Please give me another chance. I am so regretful and guilty. Please, for our son's sake, give me another chance!"
Upon hearing about her son, Gu Jia seemed to have flipped a switch, suddenly waking up and pushing Xu Huanshan away. "Don't mention our son to me! You don't deserve it! You don't deserve it!" she said as she walked out, repeatedly muttering the words "you don't deserve it."
Xu Huanshan was left standing alone in the living room.
Gu Jia called Zhong Xiaoqin and asked Chen Yu to pick her up, as she wanted to stay at Zhong Xiaoqin's house that night. Since Chen Yu's family had been living in a villa area after she gave birth, she would have to take a car to get to Chen Yu's house.
Chen Yu arrived quickly in his car, picked up Gu Jia who was like a walking corpse, helped her fasten her seatbelt, and took her back to the villa.
With Zhong Xiaoqin's comforting words, Xu Ziyan had fallen asleep. A nanny was arranged to rest next door and help look after Xu Ziyan. Chen Xinlin and Chen Zhouxin had already taken him to Sun Suying's house, which wasn't far away, just next door. Chen Yu had guessed that Gu Jia would come and might vent her emotions by crying and screaming, so to prevent Gu Jia from frightening his child, they sent him away a day early.
Just as Chen Yu had guessed, Gu Jia remained silent no matter how Zhong Xiaoqin questioned her, until Chen Yu took out a bottle of wine, poured a glass of red wine, and placed it on the coffee table in front of Gu Jia. Gu Jia picked up the glass and drank the wine in one gulp! Perhaps stimulated by the alcohol, or perhaps finding some sense of security beside Zhong Xiaoqin, Gu Jia finally released her pent-up grievances and began to sob uncontrollably.
Zhong Xiaoqin had never seen Gu Jia in such a state before. Even when Gu Jia was in a sorry state or had failed, she had never shown such heartbreak. Feeling sorry for Gu Jia, Zhong Xiaoqin quickly hugged her, put her in her arms, and patted her back gently.
When Gu Jia was exhausted from crying, she started drinking again, one glass after another, trying to numb herself with alcohol. Gu Jia wished that what had happened during this period was just a nightmare, and that when she woke up from a nap, she would be back to normal.
The next day, around noon, Gu Jia woke up in the guest room. A strange, unpleasant smell lingered in the air. She struggled to get up and saw the only set of clothes hanging in the closet, clearly meant for her. Without hesitation, Gu Jia got out of bed, changed, and went outside. Wang Wenwen and Zhong Xiaoqin were waiting for her in the dining room.
Zhong Xiaoqin came over and hugged Gu Jia. "You drank so much last night, are you still feeling unwell? Wenwen made you some porridge, have some!"
"Thank you, Xiaoqin, thank you, Wenwen. I'm sorry to have worried you." At least there were people who could take her in and help her when she was helpless. A warm feeling welled up in Gu Jia's heart amidst her sadness.
After drinking a bowl of porridge, Gu Jia, still hungover, didn't dare eat anything else. Zhong Xiaoqin saw Gu Jia put down her chopsticks and asked, "Gu Gu, are you still feeling unwell?"
Gu Jia smiled slightly, "I'm fine, Xiaoqin, don't worry!"
"Okay, good. Drink more hot water." Zhong Xiaoqin often heard this, and now she said it to Gu Jia again.
Gu Jia looked at Zhong Xiaoqin with affection and nodded with a smile.
That day, Gu Jia sat quietly in a corner of the sofa, a faint sadness in her eyes. She seemed to be isolated from the whole world, her mind focused only on the scene before her.
Zhong Xiaoqin's face beamed with happiness as she carefully cradled Xiaoyouzi. The child's rosy cheeks were as delicate and beautiful as a flower glistening with morning dew, her large eyes blinking brightly—she was incredibly adorable. Although Xiaoyouzi was Wang Wenwen's child, she was a lovely girl, and Zhong Xiaoqin preferred girls more, so she enjoyed playing with Xiaoyouzi even more. Zhong Xiaoqin gently pulled the child into her arms, tenderly stroking her little head, occasionally murmuring softly, as if sharing some secret with the child. Meanwhile, Wang Wenwen could only hold the leftover Xiaodao, who looked remarkably like Zhong Xiaoqin. Wang Wenwen felt as if she were holding a miniature version of Zhong Xiaoqin, which was quite amusing.
Watching this heartwarming scene, Gu Jia was overwhelmed with memories of Xu Huanshan and Xu Ziyan's life together. Those ordinary days they had spent together, those moments when Xu Huanshan was by her side, now stood in stark contrast to the scene before her. Each memory was like a sharp knife, cutting into her heart and causing her sharp pain.
She recalled Xu Huanshan's meticulous care when she was sick, and that thoughtfulness and tenderness made her think that they would go on like this forever; she recalled the joyful light in Xu Huanshan's eyes when Xu Ziyan was learning to speak, which was the purest love for family; however, now, these beautiful memories have been completely shattered by Xu Huanshan's infidelity, and her heart seems to have fallen into an endless abyss of darkness.
The deeper she delved into her memories, the more intolerable Xu Huanshan's infidelity became. The sting of betrayal lingered, making it difficult for her to let go. She began to question where she had gone wrong in trusting Xu Huanshan. Was love truly so fragile, unable to withstand even the slightest test? She didn't know how to face this cruel reality, and could only sit there silently, letting her thoughts drift, immersed in painful memories…
In the evening, Gu Jia finally made up her mind, left the villa, and returned to Junyue Mansion.
Xu Huanshan had been in the living room the whole time, still in his clothes. Seeing Gu Jia return, he quickly came to greet her, "Wife, you're back!"
Gu Jia took a step back, avoiding Xu Huanshan's approach, and smiled at him, "Let's get a divorce! I'll definitely get custody of Xu Ziyan, you can have the fireworks company, I can have the tea factory, and we'll split the house!" As she spoke, she walked towards the bedroom, took out a suitcase, and began packing her clothes. "I'll explain things to my dad, and you can explain things to your parents yourself!"
Seeing this, Xu Huanshan quickly stopped Gu Jia, "Wife, don't say such things! I can't live without you and our son! For our son's sake, please forgive me one more time!"
Gu Jia shook off Xu Huanshan's hand. "This is unforgivable! Why didn't you think about our son before you cheated on him?"
"Gu Jia, don't be so ruthless!" Seeing that Gu Jia still ignored him, Xu Huanshan's emotions began to erupt. "So you make all the decisions, is that it? When we started the fireworks company, it was your decision to make me leave the best team! Later, when the fireworks company made money, it was your decision to buy this big house! Did you listen to my opinion when Ziyan went to kindergarten and extracurricular classes? Did I object when we bought the tea factory? Did you listen to me? No matter how big or small the matter is, even whether we eat dinner or what socks we wear, it's all your decision! But this time, can't you listen to me this time?"
"Listen to you? What do you say?" Gu Jia became interested instead.
Xu Huanshan had no choice but to burn his bridges and take a desperate gamble. "Teacher Chen's family is harmonious and happy. Why can't we learn from Teacher Chen's family?"
