Chapter 1926 - 1916: Divine Altar’s Yellow-Boned Skeletons
Chapter 1926 - 1916: Divine Altar’s Yellow-Boned Skeletons
"That good?" Lin Zifeng was stunned. Since when had Dashuai-ge become so generous? On the way here, Lin Zifeng had suggested several times that it carry him, and this Dead Dog would rather die than agree."Cut the crap. Time’s tight, and I’m kinda scared those Guardians won’t even recognize me anymore." Its mood was complicated now. After all, it hadn’t been back for so many years. It didn’t even know if those Divine Altar native Guardians were still around; the Greek Magic Bracelet had been snatched away long ago. When the Blazing Angel fought the experts of all nations five years ago, who knew how many of the Divine Altar natives were slaughtered.
So with the massive changes over these years, Dashuai-ge was honestly afraid they were already gone. If that was the case, coming back now would just be sighing over memories.
After that, Lin Zifeng didn’t act coy. He sat on its huge, broad back and headed all the way up. Once they successfully entered the wilderness, the sight inside really drew Lin Zifeng in. Within a radius of hundreds of li, there was almost not a single blade of grass. And in some places, there were dense forests stretching for a hundred li. This baffled Lin Zifeng.
There were also parts of the wilderness that were nothing but yellow sand and stone, the environment so harsh that Lin Zifeng had rarely encountered anything like it in his life.
The Greece Wilderness really wasn’t any kind of blessed land. Lin Zifeng silently muttered in his heart. The wilderness being called a deadly place, comparable to a hellscape like Bermuda, was no exaggeration.
The deeper they went, the more waves of danger surged into his mind like a tide. If not for Dashuai-ge being familiar with the old routes, if he’d come up onto the wilderness alone this time, he probably wouldn’t have had such good luck.
"Kid, see that? That stretch of wilderness peaks ahead is the Divine Altar. Just thinking about it gets your Uncle Mastiff here all fired up." Dashuai-ge stretched out a paw, pointing at the endless wilderness mountains ahead, his heart full of nostalgia.
He hadn’t been back for years. And he’d lived a damn comfortable life at the Divine Altar back then. Those Divine Altar native Guardians treated him extremely well, practically worshiping him like some kind of God. That kind of life was something Dashuai-ge still missed to this day. What good days those were. It was just a pity that such days were gone for good now.
The wilderness was no longer the wilderness of the past. He figured that by the time he came back this time, the wilderness would have changed beyond recognition. But his memories had never changed.
How could a hundred years of memory be forgotten?
"That’s the Divine Altar?" Following the direction it indicated, Lin Zifeng looked over. It really did look like a place filled with wonder and fantasy. Lin Zifeng nodded.
It was just that Lin Zifeng somehow felt that Divine Altar wasn’t as great as he’d imagined. It was like something was missing from his impression of it, but for a moment he couldn’t put his finger on what.
It wasn’t as miraculous as Dashuai-ge had described before.
"Yeah. Excited, right? Don’t worry, once those natives see us later, they’ll definitely be thrilled." Dashuai-ge squinted his eyes in a very human-like way.
Whoosh~ A flash of white light. Man and dog once again sped forward.
"How could this be? Why is there such a strong smell of blood here? Don’t tell me those natives have already been slaughtered?" Lin Zifeng had already caught a whiff of blood. With his clairvoyant eyes, he could see very far ahead. His instincts told him that Divine Altar was not like what Dashuai-ge had described to him. Could it be that the Divine Altar was no longer the same Divine Altar as before?
Sure enough—when Lin Zifeng and Dashuai-ge got closer, they immediately noticed something was off.
Passing a broken cliff, Lin Zifeng saw a massive iron chain hanging from the cliff face in the distance. If he wasn’t mistaken, that iron chain was the one the people from the Shangguan Family had cut back then. Because of that, most of the Blazing Angel people couldn’t make it back alive and all fell at the edge of this cliff. By the cliff, there was also a great mountain, half of which had been smashed apart with a single slap by some Great Power back then.
It was as if the dust of history reappeared in Lin Zifeng’s mind. A monster who could smash half a mountain with one slap—just how fierce must that battle have been back then? There was even one more thing that astonished Lin Zifeng: on the sheer face of a broken mountain wall, there was a patch of scarlet blood, as if after all these years, that patch of blood had never dried. In other words—
that huge smear of Demon Blood had definitely been left by some unparalleled powerhouse five years ago.
"Even someone of that level came to fight over the Magic Bracelet... just how brutal must that battle have been." Lin Zifeng murmured blankly. Maybe that blood was his father’s. It wasn’t impossible.
"Not good!" Suddenly, both of Dashuai-ge’s ears shot upright, as if he’d sensed something. He instantly went on high alert. Lin Zifeng said nothing and followed its gaze. The Divine Altar of the past was now ruined beyond recognition, and the natives who guarded the Divine Altar were nowhere to be seen. When they entered the outer area of the Divine Altar, they found countless yellowed bones amidst the ruins. Most of these people had been dead a long time.
But the yellow bones weren’t what drew their eyes the most. What really grabbed their attention were the bodies that hadn’t been dead long, being torn at by several huge vultures. The corpses gave off waves of stench, a nauseating reek spreading through the air. Seven or eight bodies, rotted through and long dead, showed they hadn’t been killed very long ago. Judging from their tattered clothes, they were the natives of the Divine Altar.
Lin Zifeng realized something major had gone wrong. He whipped his head around and saw Dashuai-ge baring his teeth, eyes blood-red. The white fur all over its body was standing on end.
"Maybe it’s not as bad as you think." Lin Zifeng tried to step up and comfort it, but in Dashuai-ge’s eyes, these Divine Altar natives were like siblings. It had stayed at the Divine Altar for a full hundred years. The natives had always treated it as the Guardian Divine Beast of the Greek Magic Bracelet.
They had practically given it their Qing Xin and all their strength. A hundred years wasn’t that long—maybe not for Dashuai-ge. But for those natives whose Life Force was already short and whose lives were bitter, a hundred years was three generations. Three generations had devoted themselves to caring for Dashuai-ge. Now, seeing with its own eyes the natives of those years dead before it, their corpses insulted like this—how could it not be driven to furious madness!
"Damn it! Who the hell did this?!" Its breathing had turned extremely heavy. Its eyes were crimson, killing intent dense. With a swish, it turned into a streak of white light and shot straight toward the Divine Altar. Lin Zifeng didn’t dare delay and hurriedly chased after Dashuai-ge. He also wanted to know what exactly had happened to those natives.
Could just a few short years of Time have changed the Divine Altar? Or had all the Divine Altar natives been wiped out?
(Today’s rewards scared me silly. Over fifty people tipped me today, and quite a few brothers and sisters tipped pretty big. Here, Huahua bows in thanks... my iron friends, clasped fists.)
