Chapter 231 Rest after the Breakout

After several hours of intense trekking, Cheng Yuwei and her group finally found a secluded cave deep in the woods. The cave was flat and large enough for a few people to rest temporarily.

"Sister-in-law, if it weren't for you today, we might have died in that mining area." Zhang Qiang sat down on the ground, wiped the sweat from his forehead, his tone full of admiration.

Cheng Yuwei shook her head, put the gun aside, and said calmly: "This is not over yet. The support team has not arrived yet. The enemy is likely to continue tracking our route. We must remain vigilant."

She looked around and found that although the cave was well-hidden, it didn't have much room for defense. She whispered, "Zhang Qiang, you and Li Chao will take turns keeping watch. I'll check our ammunition and supplies."

Zhang Qiang nodded, immediately stood up and went to the cave entrance to check what was happening outside, while Li Chao lay on the ground, took out his backpack, and began to sort out the remaining dry food and water.

Brief recovery

The atmosphere in the cave gradually calmed down, with only the crackling sound of the fire. Cheng Yuwei checked her gun in the firelight. Her fingers were already rubbed with blood from the long battle, but she didn't care at all.

"Sister-in-law, why don't you take a break too?" Li Chao looked up and saw her tired expression. He couldn't help but persuade her, "We can just take turns guarding. Don't push yourself too hard."

The enemy reappears

As the night deepened, Zhang Qiang quietly climbed back from the cave entrance. With a serious expression, he whispered, "Sister-in-law, I just heard some movement down the mountain. There were a few flashlights flashing."

Cheng Yuwei immediately stood up, grabbed her gun, and walked to the cave entrance to observe. She squinted her eyes and looked carefully for a few seconds. Sure enough, she saw several swaying beams of light in the distant mountains and forests, obviously the enemy was searching.

"It seems they don't plan to give up." Cheng Yuwei sneered and made a quick decision, "We can't stay here any longer. We must move as soon as possible."

"But sister-in-law, it's the middle of the night and there are enemies everywhere. Where can we go?" Li Chao seemed a little hesitant.

Cheng Yuwei pondered for a moment and pointed to a dense forest in the distance: "The terrain over there is complicated and tracking is difficult. Let's go around and find a way to meet up."

Zhang Qiang and Li Chao did not object. They knew that Cheng Yuwei's judgment was always accurate, so they quickly packed up and prepared to leave.

Dangers of evacuation

The three of them quietly walked out of the cave and carefully made their way through the bushes. The forest was unusually silent in the dark night, and the occasional chirping of insects made people even more nervous.

After walking for a while, they heard the sound of footsteps ahead. Cheng Yuwei immediately stopped and signaled the other two to hide.

She held her breath and listened carefully, and found that the footsteps were not from just one person, but at least three or four enemies approaching.

"Sister-in-law, they seem to be nearby." Zhang Qiang whispered, his face tense.

Cheng Yuwei nodded, quickly scanned the surroundings, and found a low slope not far away, which was perfect for setting up a simple ambush point.

"We can't engage in a head-on firefight. The longer we delay, the worse it will be for us." She lowered her voice and said, "Let's ambush them on the lower slope and end this quickly."

The three of them quickly climbed the low slope and used the terrain to set up their positions. When the enemy appeared in their sight, Cheng Yuwei decisively fired, and the first bullet accurately hit the leading soldier, and the remaining enemies immediately became disorganized.

Zhang Qiang and Li Chao also cooperated in opening fire, and after a few minutes, the enemy was completely defeated.

Close to hope

After the battle, the three of them didn't stop and continued on their way. The sky was already turning slightly white, and they finally passed through the dense forest and arrived at an open valley.

Cheng Yuwei looked carefully and saw several familiar figures waving at them. They were the reception team!

The three of them approached quickly and saw a familiar face. The captain of the response team stepped forward and patted Cheng Yuwei on the shoulder: "Well done, sister-in-law! We thought you wouldn't be able to get out!"
