Chapter 196 Unsolved Mysteries
Chapter 196 Unsolved Mysteries
Ling Xiaotian summoned several core generals for a meeting that evening, and Cheng Yuwei volunteered to join in, offering advice on the upcoming war. Although the surface appeared calm, a tense atmosphere had quietly spread.
"Are there any more clues about Zhao Jun's new allies?" Ling Xiaotian sat at the conference table, his eyes sweeping over several generals.
He Zhong, who was in charge of intelligence, bowed and replied, "According to the current spies' reports, there is indeed a shadow of foreign forces. They recently obtained a batch of arms from a southern port, which was most likely provided by external forces."
"Southern Port?" Ling Xiaotian frowned. "Haven't we already wiped out all the forces in that area? How could anyone still dare to collude with the enemy?"
"General, it might be some newly emerged smuggling gangs. They seized the opportunity and infiltrated from the periphery." Another general added.
Cheng Yuwei pondered for a moment and said, "If they are truly foreign forces, how will they cooperate? Simply supplying materials, or further military intervention?"
He Zhong shook his head. "It's not clear yet, but what is certain is that the Zhao army is actively strengthening its armaments and is likely to launch a surprise attack in a short time."
"Then we must find a way to break the deadlock before they take action." Cheng Yuwei said decisively.
Ling Xiaotian nodded and tapped the table. "Add more personnel to keep a close eye on the southern ports and make sure to investigate the source of this batch of arms. Also, the frontline troops are fully prepared for battle. We must not take any disturbance lightly."
Everyone took the order and left, leaving only Ling Xiaotian and Cheng Yuwei in the meeting room.
Late-night comfort
"Xiaotian, are you a little too anxious?" Cheng Yuwei looked at his frowning face and couldn't help but walk up to him and comfort him softly.
"This battle is so complex that even a single move could affect the entire system. If we lose, it won't just be a problem for the army, but the entire civilian population in the rear will be in danger." Ling Xiaotian sighed, "I can't lose."
Cheng Yuwei reached out and gently squeezed his shoulders: "You don't need to carry everything by yourself, don't we have a team? Besides, I can help you share some of the burden."
"You've done enough." Ling Xiaotian turned sideways, grasped her hand, and spoke in a low, gentle voice, "Yuwei, do you know? Every time I see you running around taking care of everything for me, I wish I could lock you up at home and keep you out of any danger."
Cheng Yuwei chuckled: "But if these things didn't happen, I would be bored. Xiaotian, you should understand that I'm not the kind of person who is content with the status quo."
"I know." Ling Xiaotian pulled her into his arms and hugged her tightly. "But sometimes, I also hope you can think more about yourself. If one day... you are in danger, I don't know what I will do."
Cheng Yuwei felt the warmth of his embrace, and her heart ached: "Xiaotian, you've been so good to me, how could I not consider you? Don't worry, we will face this together, and nothing will happen."
Ling Xiaotian lowered his head and gently kissed her forehead: "I will do my best to protect you."
Hidden enemy
At the same time, in a secret room in the southern port, a representative of the Zhao army was talking in a low voice with a mysterious figure.
"The supplies have been arranged and are expected to be delivered to the designated location in three days," the man said in Chinese with an exotic accent. "But you must act quickly, as our patience is limited."
The Zhao army representative nodded and bowed, "Please rest assured, this time we will succeed. As long as the supplies arrive, we can launch a fatal attack on Ling Xiaotian!"
The mysterious man sneered, "I hope so. The premise of our cooperation is profit. If you can't achieve your goal, don't blame us for reconsidering this deal."
"I understand, I understand!" the Zhao army representative responded quickly.
As this conversation ended, a huge conspiracy against Ling Xiaotian was quietly brewing.
Preparations at Dawn
Early in the morning, Ling Xiaotian stood in the courtyard, gazing at the rising sun in the east. He took a deep breath, turned to Cheng Yuwei, and said, "The next few days will be critical. I may need your assistance in processing some intelligence."
"Leave it to me." Cheng Yuwei replied softly, with determination in her eyes.
The two stood side by side, as if even the coming storm could not shake their tacit understanding and trust.
