Chapter 172 Poison Investigation
Chapter 172 Poison Investigation
Cheng Yuwei returned to her laboratory, where her desk was already covered with samples taken from the captives and some items suspected to be the source of the poison. She began to analyze them intently, and Shen Zhaoning beside her occasionally helped her pass on some tools.
"Miss Wei, do you have any clue about this poison?" Shen Zhaoning asked cautiously.
Cheng Yuwei frowned and said slowly, "This is a very complex toxin, a mixture of natural plant poisons and artificial chemicals. Not only is it highly toxic, but it also has a long incubation period. It's a really ruthless trick."
Shen Zhaoning sighed: "These prisoners were poisoned. I'm afraid Wei Tianheng wants to use them to cause chaos so that we can't take care of ourselves."
Cheng Yuwei sneered: "Wei Tianheng thinks that poisoning can defeat us, then he underestimates me."
Ling Xiaotian's support
Meanwhile, Ling Xiaotian was also busy. He dispatched capable spies to search for clues outside the city, while also strengthening security inside the city to prevent the enemy from carrying out further schemes.
"Tian Heng will not rely solely on the poisoning of these captives to break the deadlock. He must have a bigger plan behind it." Ling Xiaotian said in a deep voice at the military meeting.
"Master, do we need to pretend to relax our guard and lure him into revealing his weakness?" Shen Zhaoning suggested.
"No." Ling Xiaotian shook his head. "We can't gamble. We have to make sure everything is safe. Increase patrols, replace the granary guards with clean personnel, and have Weiwei speed up the detoxification process."
Night experiment
Late at night, Cheng Yuwei was still busy in the lab. She had isolated the key component of the toxin, but developing an antidote would take time. Just as she was concentrating on operating the instrument, there was a gentle knock on the door.
"Who?" Cheng Yuwei raised her head, a little confused.
The door was pushed open and Ling Xiaotian walked in with a bowl of steaming soup in his hand.
"You've been busy all day, have something to drink." Ling Xiaotian put the soup in front of her with a gentle tone.
Cheng Yuwei was stunned for a moment, then chuckled softly, "How could you, a great commander, do such a thing?"
"You've fought tooth and nail for my soldiers, so what's the big deal if I do a little for you?" Ling Xiaotian said nonchalantly, "Drink it quickly, or it won't be good if it gets cold."
Cheng Yuwei picked up the soup, took a sip, and immediately felt a warmth spreading from her stomach.
"You are such a person that you are really hard to handle sometimes." Cheng Yuwei looked at Ling Xiaotian, her eyes softening a little.
Ling Xiaotian smiled slightly and reached out to gently ruffle her hair: "Don't work too hard, I'm worried about your health."
Clues emerge
The next morning, the spies returned with crucial intelligence: traces of poison production had been discovered in a secret workshop outside the city. Ling Xiaotian immediately decided to lead the team to investigate and asked Cheng Yuwei to remain in the city to continue developing the antidote.
"This operation is too dangerous, you must be careful." Before leaving, Cheng Yuwei held Ling Xiaotian's hand, her eyes full of worry.
Ling Xiaotian squeezed her hand and whispered, "Don't worry, I promised you that I would come back safely."
"Then it's a deal. Don't go back on your word." Cheng Yuwei said solemnly.
Ling Xiaotian nodded, turned around, mounted his horse, and led his team into the morning mist.
Counterattack begins
The workshop was hidden in the mountains and forests, surrounded by traps and sentries. Ling Xiaotian's team was divided into two groups, one responsible for attracting attention from the front, and the other for sneaking in from behind.
After a fierce exchange of fire, the enemy's defenses were finally breached. Ling Xiaotian personally led his men into the workshop and seized a large number of tools and formulas for making poisons.
"Master, this is indeed the source of the poison!" Shen Zhaoning said excitedly, "And these letters seem to have been written by core members of Wei Tianheng's staff."
Ling Xiaotian quickly flipped through a letter, a cold smile curling his lips: "Wei Tianheng, let's see what tricks you have this time."
He ordered all evidence to be brought back, the workshop to be sealed, and the captured craftsmen to be taken back to the city for interrogation.
Crisis lifted
After Cheng Yuwei learned the news, she quickly prepared a targeted antidote based on the recipe she brought back from the workshop. The poisoned prisoners gradually regained consciousness after taking the antidote, and the crisis was finally resolved.
When the last prisoner returned to normal, Cheng Yuwei leaned back in her chair tiredly and couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.
Ling Xiaotian walked forward and gently held her hand: "Thank you for your hard work, Weiwei."
Cheng Yuwei smiled and shook her head: "As long as we can save these people, it won't be hard."
Looking at her tired yet determined eyes, Ling Xiaotian felt an indescribable tenderness well up in his heart. He lowered his head and gently kissed her forehead: "With you here, my world is complete."
Cheng Yuwei was stunned for a moment, then blushed and whispered, "You're really good at saying sweet things."
The sunlight from outside poured in through the window, seeming to herald the coming of a brief period of peace.
