Chapter 150 Confrontation between light and darkness
Chapter 150 Confrontation between light and darkness
The next morning, Ling Xiaotian arrived at the command center as usual to discuss the latest defense issues with his staff. However, a subtle coldness lingered in his expression.
Late last night, his spies had returned with preliminary intelligence—the man named Li An, who claimed to be the owner of the pharmacy, was nowhere to be found. Cheng Yuwei's analysis further confirmed his suspicions: the other party had deliberately brought him a clue.
"This tactic of retreating to advance is quite clever." Ling Xiaotian sneered inwardly and ordered his subordinates to take advantage of the situation. He wanted to use this pawn to find the real culprit.
Pharmacy Secrets
Meanwhile, Cheng Yuwei was busy alone in the lab. She carefully separated the powdered drug and analyzed its components. The process went smoothly until a hint of something unusual appeared under the microscope, causing her heart to tighten.
"This is..." She hurriedly recorded her observations, her brow furrowed.
The ingredients mixed in the powder are not simply poisons, but a complex compound that can be used as both a weapon and a mental drug. If this thing is used on the military or civilians, the consequences will be disastrous.
Just as she was about to tell Ling Xiaotian about her discovery, there was a sudden knock on the door.
"Who?" Cheng Yuwei asked vigilantly.
"It's me." Ling Xiaotian's voice came from outside the door, low and gentle.
She breathed a sigh of relief and quickly opened the door, only to see Ling Xiaotian standing outside with a serious expression on his face. Behind him was a panicked guard.
"Something happened," Ling Xiaotian said bluntly. "A fire broke out in a pharmacy in the south of the city this morning. The owner and his employees were all killed. That store was exactly the place Li An mentioned."
Cheng Yuwei's expression changed: "What a coincidence?"
"It's not a coincidence. They're destroying the evidence." Ling Xiaotian's voice was so cold it made people shudder. "It seems their plan is more meticulous than we expected."
Cheng Yuwei handed the analysis results to Ling Xiaotian: "This is what I just found out. I'm afraid this powder is the key to their operation."
After Ling Xiaotian read it, his brows furrowed even more tightly. "It's too dangerous. Don't act alone for now. I'll arrange for someone to protect you."
Cheng Yuwei looked at the worry in his eyes and said softly, "I will be careful. You don't have to worry about me too much."
"But you are my life." Ling Xiaotian blurted out, then realized the weight of his words, and a rare tenderness flashed in his eyes.
Cheng Yuwei was stunned for a moment, then smiled: "If you are so clingy, I'm afraid those chiefs of staff will wonder if I am your weakness."
"So what?" Ling Xiaotian suddenly approached her, his voice low and firm, "Yuwei, whoever dares to touch you will regret being born."
Cheng Yuwei looked into his deep eyes, her heart throbbing. She knew very well that Ling Xiaotian was not the type to easily express love, and behind every promise he made was an incredible sense of responsibility and determination.
The beginning of the counterattack
Soon after, Ling Xiaotian convened a meeting with his confidants to plan his next move. He planned to use false intelligence to attract the enemy's attention while secretly mobilizing troops to encircle and eliminate those hidden forces.
"If we're going to strike, we have to hit the target with one strike." Ling Xiaotian said in a stern tone, "This time, we must not only uncover the enemy in the dark, but also capture the mastermind behind them."
The staff officers nodded in agreement, and Ling Xiaotian's eyes fell on the map on the table, and his fingers lightly ran over a few marks.
"In the next few days, you should strengthen patrols in the city, especially in the southwest area. I suspect that's their base camp."
Meanwhile, Cheng Yuwei was also making a difference in her own field. She continued to analyze the formulas of the drugs and tried to research possible antidotes. She knew that the enemy's methods were not simple, and the only thing she could do was to not give them any chance in her professional field.
Sudden romance
A few days later, Ling Xiaotian took some time off and took Cheng Yuwei to a bamboo forest outside the city. The scenery there was beautiful, away from the hustle and bustle, and it was a place where he could occasionally relax.
"Why did you suddenly think of bringing me here?" Cheng Yuwei was a little surprised.
"I can't let you deal with those powders in the lab all the time." Ling Xiaotian smiled and reached out to hold her hand. "It's quiet here, perfect for us to talk about our concerns."
Cheng Yuwei looked at his rare relaxed expression, and her heart warmed slightly: "So what's on your mind that you want to tell me?"
Ling Xiaotian looked at her, his eyes as gentle as the warm spring sun: "Yuwei, if one day I can't protect you, will you hate me?"
Cheng Yuwei was startled, then she held his hand tightly and said firmly, "I never need your protection. I just hope you are safe. As for the rest, we can face it together."
Ling Xiaotian didn't say anything, but pulled her into his arms and whispered, "I won't let that day come."
The two walked side by side in the bamboo forest, occasionally talking in low voices, and occasionally staring at each other in silence. This moment of peace was like the calm before the storm.
Crisis reappears
However, before the two of them returned home, a guard hurried over and whispered a few words in Ling Xiaotian's ear.
Ling Xiaotian's expression darkened instantly: "Yuwei, go back home first."
Cheng Yuwei was stunned: "What happened?"
"Someone broke into our warehouse." Ling Xiaotian's voice was cold and hard. "I have to deal with it myself."
Cheng Yuwei nodded: "Be careful, I will wait for you in the mansion."
Ling Xiaotian looked at her and reached out to stroke her cheek: "Don't worry, I'll be back soon."
Watching him leave, Cheng Yuwei felt a faint sense of unease. She always felt that things were far from as simple as they seemed. And this hidden conspiracy was quietly approaching...
