Chapter 235: The Fight —Pushing them Back
Chapter 235: The Fight —Pushing them Back
The females did not slow, not even for a second.
They crashed into even more lesser demons like a living wall, their claws and blades flashing as their bodies collided with brutal precision.
The only look in their eyes was determination, hope and a sense of renewal and courage, sharpened by years of being told they were lesser, and finally being told that night on stage, by Theo, that they could carve a different path for themselves.
The first demon barely had time to turn before Ava tore its throat out. She had finally reached into her wolf and tapped into powers, allowing her to become stronger and faster.
Blood sprayed across the dirt as she landed hard and kept moving, her brown wolf ripping forward through the chaos.
Behind her, the students of the Luna Academy fought like they had been waiting for this moment all their lives.
They fought dirty.
They fought smart, but most importantly they fought together.
One demon went down under three of them female wolves, torn apart limb by limb. Another was dragged screaming into the dirt, its skull crushed beneath coordinated strikes. The females moved in patterns they had been trained for at Luna Academy, and of course, the hell they had gone through during their short time at Gravemont.
Leonard was still frozen, watching it all unfold like a film. Vincent barely blocked a claw as his gaze snapped toward more charging women jumping into the battlefield fearlessly, "What in the hell," Vincent breathed.
"They’re holding the line," Leonard said hoarsely.
And they were.
The lesser demons hit the female wolves expecting easy kills, but they were mostly met with slaughter.
Liam fought nearby, blood slick on his arms. His breathing was ragged as he ripped through another demon and spun back toward the Veil tear. His blood powers weakened and so did his body, but he forced himself to keep moving.
Then he saw them.
For half a second, he stopped.
The women moved past him, flanking the demons. One dragged a wounded wolf behind her without slowing, and two of them leapt straight for a demon twice their size and took its head clean off.
Liam swallowed hard and went back to fighting.
Alcaeus saw it too, and his Alpha demon wolf snarled, its massive head lifting as molten eyes swept across the battlefield. Something ugly twisted through his expression.
"This changes nothing," He roared.
Then he threw his head back and howled.
The sound ripped through the forest like a command, and something answered back from within the forest.
Through the darkness that surrounded them, a silhouette stepped into the battlefield. It was larger than any demon yet, and its horns were curved upward like jagged crowns while its body was thick and plated with obsidian flesh.
Its eyes burned a sickly gold as it dragged itself fully into the warzone.
Alcaeus’s pet.
Zevon had seen it before.
While he was being Sylas.
The night Theo had gotten drunk, something had walked out of the Ravenspire path and almost taken her in the rain.
This was it.
The demon. And it’s been obediently waiting for its master to return for many years in this forest.
The demon roared and charged straight towards the female line. It didn’t take up to three steps before three figures moved.
Aurelius shifted again and his massive wolf slammed into the creature’s flank. Celeste followed, his blades flashing as he leapt high and drove his claws into its shoulder. Harrison came last, his blade blazing as he struck at the demon’s legs, forcing it to stumble.
The demon screamed and swung wildly, throwing Aurelius aside and slamming Celeste into the ground. Harrison barely rolled out of the way as its claws carved a trench where he had been.
"Together," Celeste snarled as he pushed back up through the pain.
They moved as one, trying to coordinate their movements. Aurelius locked onto the creature’s horns, dragging its head down. Harrison drove his blade deep into its chest, and Celeste leapt again, this time tearing for its throat.
The demon howled in rage and pain.
Around them, the females held the line.
Back at the centre of it all, Zeke and Zevon did not look away. They couldn’t even if they wanted to.
Alcaeus lunged again, his Alpha wolf slamming into Zeke with crushing force. Zeke snarled and met him head-on, his red wolf against molten beast, and every collision ripped the ground apart.
Zevon moved like living shadow, and closed the distance between himself and Alcaeus in a blink, his shadows wrapping around the Alpha’s limbs and biting deep. Alcaeus roared as darkness carved into him, tearing through his reinforced demonic flesh.
"You are not untouchable," Zevon snarled.
Alcaeus snapped at him, his jaws closing on Zevon’s shadow and flesh alike. Zevon staggered but did not fall. Instead, his power surged harder and darker as shadows screamed with Erebos fully asserting itself.
He slammed his hand into Alcaeus’s side and forced him back. The Alpha demon wolf crashed into the dirt, hard.
Zeke did not give him time to recover. He tore into Alcaeus’s throat, teeth sinking deep, ripping and burning as demonic energy flared violently. Alcaeus screamed, his claws slashing wildly as he forced Zeke off with a brutal kick.
Nearby, Theo rose from where Zevon had thrown her.
Her body was literally cracking now, with silver light burning through her veins as Seraphina raged harder than ever. The demon snarled as she forced the wolf back down once again, her movements now very jerky and violent.
Zeke and Zevon felt the small bond still reaching out to them, and Zeke turned toward her even as Alcaeus roared behind him.
"Hear me," Zeke growled, voice carrying through the chaos, "Hellcat,"
The demon flinched a bit.
Zeke stepped closer while Zevon took on Alcaeus behind him, "I know you’re still there," Zeke said, louder now, "You don’t get to leave us, Hellcat. Not like this,"
The demon screamed and lunged at him, but Zevon intercepted her mid-strike, his shadows slamming into her and pinning her to the ground. He planted his knee on her chest and leaned down, his eyes burning blue.
"Fight," He snarled into her face, "You always do."
Silver light exploded again.
Seraphina surged so violently that the demon screamed in agony, her body arching as claws tore free from beneath her skin.
Zeke felt it hit him like a punch to the chest, "That’s you," He shouted. "That’s my Hellcat,"
The demon thrashed harder, losing control for a split second as silver and black tore through her form.
Alcaeus roared and charged again, and Zevon released demon Theo and turned just in time to meet him.
The impact was thunderous.
Shadows and demonic fire collided, ripping through the air as Zevon forced Alcaeus back again. The Alpha demon snarled in disbelief as Zevon overwhelmed him, power pouring from him unchecked.
"You thought demonic powers would make you a god?" Zevon raged, "Maybe it did, but also made me one. And gods can kill each other. You made the mistake of using your sons as guinea pigs, and they learned to adapt,"
Zeke rejoined the fight instantly, flanking Alcaeus. The red wolf tore into Alcaeus’s side while Zevon struck from the front.
Alcaeus staggered back.
The females fought on, and the males rallied behind them. The demon pet screamed as Aurelius, Celeste, and Harrison drove it closer to death.
And at the centre of it all, two brothers stood shoulder to shoulder, fighting their father, who had crossed all evil boundaries and a demon wearing the body of the woman they loved.
