Chapter 435 Lawyer's Letter
Chapter 435 Lawyer's Letter
A month passed quickly.
Deng Huairou successfully secured the 120,000 yuan for the new project. She was naturally happy to receive the money, but something she had been worried about had happened again, and she couldn't be happy at all when she thought about it.
That is, Cheng Youli kept mentioning that he wanted to go to school and play with the other children there. She refused, and as the mother and son talked, Cheng Youli brought up the matter of her bullying a classmate again, pressing her to tell her if she had apologized to that classmate.
She didn't care what happened to the classmates she had bullied; what she cared about was Cheng Youli's opinion of her. Lately, she had been living in fear that Cheng Youli thought she was a bad mother, which frustrated her to no end.
She thought that Cheng Youli would have forgotten after so much time, but he still remembered. After thinking it over, she realized that it was Ming Shisui who had said something he shouldn't have, which triggered Cheng Youli's memory of that video.
So she carefully reviewed the surveillance footage of Cheng Youli's class and found that Ming Shisui had indeed talked to Cheng Youli about things outside of class, but they were all about teaching Cheng Youli the correct principles of conduct, and she couldn't find any fault with them. However, she was still very unhappy about it and wanted to fire Ming Shisui, but Cheng Youli refused.
The mother and son are having breakfast together.
Deng Huairou looked at Cheng Youli beside her with a smile and asked, "Chengcheng, Mommy's new project is finished, and I got a lot of money. How about Mommy takes you out to play later?"
"Mom, don't I have class later?"
"Mom told the teacher that you're taking the day off," Deng Huairou said gently with a smile.
"Okay, Mom, let's go to the zoo."
"Okay, I'll do whatever Chengcheng says." Deng Huairou reached out and patted Cheng Youli's head.
The mother and son ate breakfast quietly for a while, when Cheng Youli suddenly said, "Mom, you can't secretly fire Teacher Ming, okay? I really like Teacher Ming, and I don't want her to leave."
Deng Huairou's smile froze for a moment, then she said naturally, "Mom was just joking with you before. If you still want Teacher Ming to be your teacher, then let her continue teaching you."
"Thank you, Mom!" Cheng Youli smiled broadly.
Seeing her son laughing so happily, Deng Huairou felt incredibly bitter inside.
After the mother and son finished breakfast and got dressed, they prepared to go out. As they walked hand in hand to the door, Deng Huairou's phone rang.
She pressed the answer button. "Hello, who is this?"
"Hello, are you called Deng Huairou?"
"Yes, I am."
"Oh, there's a delivery document here that you need to sign. Could you please come over here? I'm right at the entrance of your complex, but the security guards won't let me in."
"Okay, wait a moment."
Deng Huairou drove Cheng Youli to the entrance of the residential complex, where they saw a man dressed as a deliveryman waiting with a document bag. Seeing that no one was approaching, she stopped the car and went to sign for the document.
She took the document but didn't look at it carefully. After getting on the bus, she casually tossed the document aside.
Cheng Youli, who was in the back child seat, reached out to her, "Mom, what's that? I want to see."
"Here you go." Deng Huairou controlled the steering wheel with one hand and handed the document to Cheng Youli in the back seat with the other. Cheng Youli was very sensible and wouldn't tear up her things. He said he wanted to take a look, and he really just wanted to take a look, so she felt comfortable letting him see it.
Cheng Youli didn't know many words, and after examining the folder for a long time without understanding what it was, she finally asked, "Mom, what's this? Is it money for your new project?"
Deng Huairou smiled and said, "No, the money for the new project was deposited into Mom's account. This is just a document."
"Oh."
……
After playing in the evening, I went home.
After washing up, Deng Huairou remembered the document she had signed during the day. She sat down at her dressing table and opened it.
The moment she opened the envelope, her fingers paused. Inside wasn't an ordinary document, but a lawyer's letter. It had the law firm's letterhead, case number, and lawyer's signature—it was legitimate. She quickly glanced at the accusations against her: copyright infringement dispute, coercion to deprive her of her right to authorship, and profiteering from the misuse of another's work.
A disdainful smile played on her lips; she showed no sign of panic. This wasn't her first time being sued. In the past, she'd hired lawyers known in the industry as "relationship lawyers," skilled at manipulating procedures, stalling for time, finding loopholes, and using connections to pressure cases. She had the money to afford the delays, while the plaintiffs were usually unsuccessful newcomers to the workforce with modest family backgrounds, who would eventually give up after two or three months due to financial constraints.
However, this time the people came prepared. Along with the lawyer's letter came other printed evidence accusing her of misappropriating others' works: original manuscript version timestamps, design source files, cloud drive automatic backup logs, version-by-version revision records from the first draft to the final draft, a copyright identity appraisal report issued by a third-party judicial appraisal institution, bank statements and public evidence of her receiving project bonuses and commercial licensing fees as the sole creator.
This person is unlike anyone I've encountered before; he's a tough nut to crack and extremely professional.
"Xu Yao, I really underestimated you."
Deng Huairou scoffed inwardly.
It's okay. If she can't handle it, she has a husband. Her husband has resources and connections in the political, business, and judicial systems. There's nothing she can't handle.
She turned around and saw her husband sitting on the bed, leaning against the headboard looking at his phone. Composing herself, she climbed onto the bed with red eyes, hugged her husband, and said in a pleading tone, "Honey, someone's suing me, they sent me a lawyer's letter, what should I do?"
"Who?" The man looked up.
Deng Huairou handed him the received documents, saying, "Look, this person seems quite professional."
The man took the document and began to read it page by page. As he got to the end, his expression became increasingly serious. "Who have you messed with?"
"No way! I've been behaving myself lately." Deng Huairou pouted slightly to express her dissatisfaction. "Honey, can you help me stall for time?"
The man sighed. "Alright, I'll have someone liaise with you in the next couple of days. Just tell them the whole story honestly."
"Thank you, honey." Deng Huairou kissed the man on the cheek.
the next day,
Deng Huairou arrived at the company on time, furious. As soon as she arrived, she called Xu Yao to her office and slapped her hard.
"Xu Yao, you're really something, daring to sue me. You've got real courage."
Xu Yao covered her face, glaring at her resentfully, and said, "I should have sued you a long time ago. You stole everything from me. Shouldn't I fight back?"
Deng Huairou scoffed, "Fine, let's see if you can succeed in suing her." With that, she slapped Xu Yao again, "Get lost."
Xu Yao didn't say much and silently left the office.
Back at her workstation, she immediately told Yu Ru what had just happened, "She seemed so confident. Do I really think I can win a lawsuit against her?"
Ten minutes later, Yu Ru replied: Yes.
Seeing Yu Ru's reply, Xu Yao felt a little more at ease.
Just then, a colleague passed by her workstation, saw her red and swollen face, and couldn't help but ask, "Xu Yao, what happened to your face? It's so red and swollen. Shouldn't you go to the hospital to get it checked out? Otherwise, it could be a serious matter if you get disfigured."
Xu Yao glanced up at her colleague, then quickly looked down again, saying somewhat awkwardly, "It's nothing, I just have a slight allergic reaction. I've already taken some medicine, and I'll be fine soon."
"Oh, then be careful yourself." Her colleague looked at her with sympathy, clearly not believing her explanation, and gave a meaningful glance in the direction of Deng Huairou's office.
