Chapter 38 Uncle Comes to Visit
Chapter 38 Uncle Comes to Visit
A violent storm raged all night.
Even with mountains surrounding the village, the power of a typhoon is not to be underestimated.
During the heaviest part of the night, the wind and rain were so strong that even inside the house, you could hear the howling of the wind outside.
Especially since the village is full of old houses.
When the wind blew, the old wooden doors and windows shook violently, accompanied by creaking noises.
It's enough to make anyone's heart tremble, fearing that if the wind were any stronger, it would blow the house apart.
Not to mention there are two little ones at home.
Outside, a fierce storm raged, with occasional flashes of lightning and thunder, which terrified Sun Ping and Sun An'an.
He stayed in the downstairs room, pestering Zhou Yue'e and Sun Ran, refusing to go back to his room to sleep no matter what they said.
In the end, there was no other way but to take each child back to their own room and coax them to sleep together.
Fortunately, the calming tea came in handy again, and after coaxing the two little ones to bed, they quickly fell asleep peacefully.
It wasn't until late into the night that the sounds of wind and rain outside finally subsided a little.
But at this point, people also started to get busy.
Every now and then, some people can't help but worry, so they brave the rain and head out to the terraced fields in the dark.
Check the water level, inspect the drainage ditches and clear away the garbage, and observe whether there is any risk of collapse on the field ridges...
Even if the total area of the fields is only a little over 200 mu, and even if the amount of grain grown on the land is only so much...
But that doesn't stop them from treating those newly planted seedlings as precious treasures and taking great care of them.
And so the night passed...
The wind gradually stopped, but the rain continued to fall outside.
A series of raindrops pattered against the roof tiles. Under the eaves, Zhou Yue'e and her son Sun Ran sat picking vegetables, while the two little ones played and laughed around them.
"Sun An'an! If you dare stick your head out again, I'll beat you up!"
Holding a bunch of greens, Zhou Yue'e let out a loud roar, startling the little girl who was secretly peeking her head out from under the eaves. She quickly ducked back inside.
As soon as the thunder and wind stopped, the little girl instantly recovered and was fully recharged.
After waking up in the morning, looking at the heavy rain outside and the little bit of water in the yard, my eyes were full of eager anticipation.
As soon as I got out of bed, I dashed into the yard with my short little legs.
They claimed they were going to brush their teeth and wash their faces, but actually they were just there to play in the water.
The little feet were kicking and splashing in the water, having a wonderful time.
Zhou Yue'e was so angry!
He immediately dragged her back and gave her a few hard slaps on the buttocks.
With such heavy rain, aren't you afraid of catching a cold if you get soaked?
After giving her a beating, she was dragged back to her room to shower and change clothes. It was a huge relief that she had finally finished all that. If she dared to get wet in the rain again, Zhou Yue'e would be furious.
"Mom, how did it go when you went to the rice paddies this morning?"
Sun Ran watched as the little girl returned looking sullen and started playing with the big yellow dog with her brother again. He couldn't help but chuckle to himself and quickly changed the subject to divert his mother's attention.
"It's alright, not many rice seedlings have fallen over. If we help them up when the rain subsides, they should be fine."
Zhou Yue'e said, picking at the vegetables in her hands.
With the typhoon approaching, it was impossible to leave the vegetables in the garden unharvested. All the vegetables that could be picked were brought back, even those that weren't fully grown yet.
It's better than being left outside to be blown away by the wind.
However, trouble arose after all the vegetables were picked.
Cucumbers and tomatoes are fine; they can stay in the refrigerator for a few more days. But some leafy greens won't last long and need to be eaten quickly.
The past two days have been filled with work in the fields and repairing the house. Today, as soon as they had a spare moment, the mother and son started picking vegetables, one basin at a time.
The mother and son chatted idly as they picked the greens in their hands one by one.
"By the way, did you go to see your uncle this morning?" Zhou Yue'e suddenly asked as the mother and son chatted.
"I've already looked. My third aunt said that my uncle took some people to the mountains to check the water situation. I'll call him again later to ask."
Qingshan Village is surrounded by three high mountains, a layout also known as "Three Dragons Playing with a Pearl".
Where there are mountains, there are bound to be waters, and several streams flow down the surrounding mountains.
Normally the stream is clear and flows swiftly, and in the deeper parts it only reaches about knee-deep, but now that it's raining heavily, it's definitely different.
As the village head, Sun Bolang will definitely be keeping a close eye on this situation.
Although nothing had ever happened before, there's an old saying: "It's better to be safe than sorry."
"Yes, this rain is quite heavy, we need to be careful."
Zhou Yue'e tossed the vegetables she had selected into the bowl, looked up at the sky outside, and a hint of worry on her face:
"Now I just hope the weather will really be like the weather forecast said, and that the rain will stop soon."
"Mom, don't worry. These days, satellites are watching from the sky, and the weather forecast is pretty accurate. Everything will be fine."
Sun Ran offered a word of comfort, and Zhou Yue'e nodded, still somewhat absent-minded.
That's what they say, but who can really predict what will happen in the end?
It's not uncommon for weather forecasts to be wrong or changed at the last minute.
"Sigh, I wonder how your uncle is doing..." She looked away, shook her head, and sighed.
"What happened?"
Speak of the devil, and he appears. No sooner had the words left their mouths than the courtyard gate creaked open, and Sun Bolang, wearing a raincoat, pushed it open and walked into the courtyard.
"That's exactly what we were talking about, the rain. How are things? Is everything alright up in the mountains?"
Zhou Yue'e looked up and asked with concern.
"It's nothing serious, the water level has risen quite a bit, but it's not a big problem."
Sun Bolang took off his raincoat, shook it vigorously, and hung it on the wall: "By the way, Huiying told me that Ranran, you wanted to see me about something?"
"What's the rush? You came to my house so early this morning before the rain had even stopped?"
He walked over to Sun Ran, pulled up a stool, sat down, and casually picked up a bunch of vegetables, asking questions as he did so.
"It's nothing major, I just wanted to ask how to get a beekeeping license. I'd like to apply for one."
Sun Ran smiled at him and said.
"A beekeeping license?"
Sun Bolang was taken aback: "You want to raise bees? What made you think of that?"
"Hey, Uncle, you've already forgotten about yesterday? Your memory's failing you. A cup of honey tea costs two hundred dollars, I definitely need to get a certificate."
Sun Ran chuckled. Sun Bolang was taken aback at first, then jumped up.
"Damn, you're really planning to sell it? It's so expensive, what sucker would buy it? Sister-in-law, aren't you going to try and stop him?!"
As he spoke, he looked at Zhou Yue'e for the first time.
Sun Bolang had originally thought that his sister-in-law would also speak up and refute him.
But to his surprise, after he turned his head, he saw Zhou Yue'e hesitate for a moment before firmly shaking her head.
"As children grow up, their ideas change. He wants to explore on his own, and we as parents certainly have to support him."
"You guys are really something..."
Sun Bolang looked at her, then at Sun Ran, wanting to say something but unsure how to put it. In the end, he could only shake his head with a wry smile and sit down.
"Fine, since you've agreed, sister-in-law, I have nothing more to say."
"A beekeeping license, right? How many bees do you plan to keep?"
"Not too many for now, maybe we'll raise one box first, and then see if we need to split it into smaller boxes next year..." Sun Ran replied after thinking for a moment.
"Then we don't need to get a certificate..."
Sun Bolang nodded, and then talked to him about the specifics.
Beekeeping is relatively simple. Beekeeping licenses are mainly for beekeeping in areas other than the designated area. He can keep only one hive for now and not apply for a license. He can apply for one later if needed.
If you want to sell honey directly, you need to register it first.
If the food is to be processed before being sold, a food production license is required.
After learning about beekeeping, Sun Ran chatted with Sun Bolang about renting a place to open a small workshop.
Sun Bolang had no objection to this, since there were plenty of empty houses in the village, and he could rent as many as he wanted.
However, he still needs to ask the accountant about the rent, since no one has rented it for so many years...
The uncle and nephew also discussed other matters such as what certificates and procedures were required, and Sun Ran had a general idea of what to expect.
"Okay, then I'll head back now."
Seeing that the conversation had gone on long enough, Sun Bolang stood up, dusted off his clothes, and turned to leave.
Before I could even take a step, I felt my clothes tighten.
Turning around, he saw Sun Ran grinning and tugging at his clothes: "Uncle, don't rush, I have things to do."
