79. Burying people
"Brother Sasha, I was ignorant before, I apologize to you. I will definitely return that million to you, but I hope you can do me a favor as well."
"I want to rejoin the Tambov faction and leave Russia for Spain. You're a favorite of Petrov, so please recommend me."
Sasha was surprised that Galina agreed so readily. She felt something was off, but couldn't quite put her finger on it, and her eyes darted around.
"With Li Xiang as your backer, you're practically one of Gusinsky's men. Look at you, so radiant. Why go back to the gang and follow the old path?"
Galina forced a smile and said, "I used to be able to help them solve their problems, but now I'm their problem. The world is cold and heartless. What can we do when our past is so shady? What else can we do but turn back?"
Galina isn't a very good actress, but she delivered a rather vivid performance in this scene.
"You got used and dumped?" Sasha no longer hid, her eyes brazenly scanning Galina. "You can ask me for help, but a million won't do. You'll have to compensate me for the losses from selling my house."
St. Petersburg's housing prices nearly doubled last year and have risen another 50% this year.
It ranks 17th in global housing prices.
"I'll scrape together a million, I really don't have any more," Galina pleaded. "Please help me get in touch first, and I'll pay you back slowly later as much as I'm short."
"It's not impossible, but you have to show some sincerity." Sasha reached out to touch Galina's hand, but Galina dodged it.
"Your men are still watching over there. I'm going to get the money. Here's ten million rubles for you. We'll meet at the hotel." Galina winked and stood up, saying, "Keep an eye on your phone. I'll send you the room number after I check in."
"Before it was you and me, but in the future it will be me and you. We have a long way to go."
Sasha is now the boss and has no shortage of women; he can find them for free or for a fee, no matter how beautiful they are.
But those women who came out to make a living are no match for Galina.
It's a sense of conquest after a comeback.
For their date tonight, Sasha not only took a nice bath but also prepared some blue pills. However, before they even reached the hotel entrance, in the parking lot, she was given an anesthetic, her nose covered, stuffed into a sack, and dragged away.
-
Latvia.
An abandoned shipyard near Port Roya.
Vovan pulled Sasha out of the sack and checked the ropes binding his hands and feet.
Galina's other henchman, Thormos, brought over a bucket of water and, after Vovan dodged, poured it over Sasha's head.
Sasha was awakened by the seawater and coughed violently from the choking.
"How's this room? Are you satisfied?"
Galina was dressed like a fashionable socialite, wearing a black and white cape coat, black leather gloves, and a red Lady Dior bag.
Sasha looked terrified, but quickly realized the situation and said with a grin, "I was just joking with you."
"If you hadn't brought me into the Tambov gang, I wouldn't be where I am today. The past is the past, and I won't accept the money you offer."
"Petrov can even use a piece of trash like me who's not good enough for anything. You'll definitely be able to make a name for yourself in Spain. I'm counting on you to keep protecting me when you do well in the future."
"Finished?" Galina pulled a revolver from her bag, unloaded the bullets, leaving one in her hand to show Sasha. "Russian Roulette. Answer whatever I ask you. If I'm not satisfied with your answer, I'll shoot you in the head."
"If I give a satisfactory answer, will you let me go?" Sasha asked with a big smile.
Don't test my patience.
Galina didn't load the bullets. She turned the empty reel, pushed it up, pointed the gun at Sasha, and demanded, "Where did you bury Pavel's body?"
Sasha stubbornly insisted, "He went to Germany."
"Three, two, one."
Galina deliberately gave Sasha some time to react, counting to one before firing.
"You actually shot him? If I die, you'll never find him again."
"I'm only looking for him to finish my job. It would be best if I could get the information out of you, but if I can't, I'll just use you as a scapegoat. It's all the same whether you're burned to ashes or not."
Galina raised her pistol again.
"I'll say it," Sasha's brain was racing.
"Three..." Galina started counting again.
"I'll be honest, I did take Pavel's cargo, but his death had nothing to do with me. He was crushed to death by the cargo while it was being unloaded."
"I didn't ask you how he died, I asked where you buried him."
Sasha was still trying to stall, saying, "I really can't explain it clearly. Let's go to Latvia together, and I'll take you to the scene to find it."
Vovan interjected, "You're in Latvia right now."
This time, Galina didn't count down; she fired a shot directly.
"What are you doing?" Sasha was so frightened that she rolled on the ground, thankfully the gun didn't fire.
"You're lucky, two shots didn't kill you," Galina said impatiently. "I'm not in the mood to play with you anymore. If you really want to cooperate, let's go out and find someone."
"If you don't cooperate, I'll pull the trigger a few more times, and the game will be over."
Sasha forced a smile and said, "Galina, I can take you to find the person. Could you do me a favor and tell them I got away without you noticing, and spare my life?"
Galina smiled and said, "If it were just me, I could agree, but now there are three of us, and our stories need to be consistent."
"I'll pay to save my life," Sasha said with a mournful face.
"How much can you give?"
"Five hundred and thirty thousand, that's all I have. And this is what I just earned."
"You're pretty quick at making money, aren't you?" Galina turned to her two subordinates, pretending to discuss, "If he had said a round number, I think we could have squeezed a little more out of him. A few odd numbers would probably be the limit."
"Will it work?"
After the three reached an agreement, Galina put the pistol back in her bag and said to Sasha, "You're lucky you escaped with your life."
Sasha: "You must keep your promise."
"Enough with the nonsense." Tormos roughly pulled Sasha up from the ground.
Galina chuckled and scolded, "Be polite, they paid for it."
-
Although Sasha was leading the way, he only remembered a general outline. In the desolate wilderness, everything looked pretty much the same, and it took him almost six hours to find the way.
This was because it was buried shallowly, and the rain washed it out, revealing the clothes.
"This isn't one person, it's several heads." Vovan and Tormos, shovels in hand, dug and found more and more bones.
"Is this really it?"
Seeing Galina about to pull out her gun again at the slightest provocation, Sasha quickly said, "Yes, they were all crushed to death together. Luckily, I was standing far away, or I would have been done for too."
"Are you sure?" Galina asked again to confirm.
Sasha nodded repeatedly: "I'm sure."
Galina instructed her two subordinates, "Keep digging, and take everything you find with you."
-
More than half an hour later.
The bones were retrieved, but Sasha was thrown into the pit.
"I'll give you the money. I have over three million six hundred thousand US dollars, and I'll give it all to you. I won it all gambling at the casino. I've been on a particularly good winning streak lately."
Sasha was still making a last-ditch effort, even if it was just to buy a few more minutes.
Being near the sea, if a boat happens to pass by and see them, there's always the possibility of something unexpected happening.
Galina stood beside the pit, looking down at Sasha. "Trying to take advantage of me? Don't you know who you are? Even if I were to be taken advantage of, it wouldn't be your turn. Bury me!"
