Chapter 84 The Holy Body
Chapter 84 The Holy Body
"Lawrence, you owe me a favor."
While packing up his G28 sniper rifle, Samuel Gray used his head to hold the satellite phone tucked between his shoulder and ear, and asked Lawrence Chambers for money.
Soon, Lawrence's voice came from the other end of the satellite phone.
"Samuel...the one whom God hears..."
"Okay, I actually really hate the name the old man gave you... It's like your current combat ability isn't a talent you earned through hard work, but rather a 'divine gift'."
"Predetermined 'fate' is the most boring thing in the world."
"So, may I call you by your codename 'Ghost'?"
Samuel scoffed.
"When did you become so long-winded and so polite?"
Lawrence on the other end of the phone didn't seem to care much about Samuel's slightly offensive tone, and instead gave a rather serious explanation.
"When making a request of someone, one should show the most basic attitude."
"This is the style and principle of me as a top elite."
After a brief pause, Lawrence suddenly changed the subject.
"I suggest you do the same, because it is your responsibility and obligation as a fellow 'top elite'."
Samuel paused in packing his things, but then he closed the guitar case containing the gun and accessories.
"Bang!"
Samuel spoke after a muffled thud.
"Okay, Lawrence, as always, you can always convince the 'unruly' me—now tell me, what else do you want me to do?"
"I want you to confirm whether the target individual 'Li Wei' is alive."
Samuel smiled after hearing Lawrence's words.
"ha!"
"Lawrence, do you know?"
"That Asian guy was shot at least twelve times."
"You should know that this is a serious injury that even a 'Faith Warrior' who has undergone the 'Holy Body' transformation cannot withstand."
"If this doesn't kill him, I think your father could practically give him the title of 'New Holy Son'."
Lawrence laughed too.
"Heh, viewing technological achievements as 'divine miracles'... I think you're not as foolish as that old man, are you?"
"Therefore, I need a precise and visible 'result,' not the same 'self-righteousness' as the old man's head filled with 'garbage,' understand?"
Samuel was silent for a moment, but quickly shrugged.
"Alright, as you wish, my 'kindred spirit'."
Lawrence added an extra instruction.
"If he is still alive, remember, do not kill him, evacuate immediately."
Samuel, who had already planned to hang up, held the satellite phone back to his ear.
"What? Just a second ago you were saying 'divine miracles' were trash, and now you're warning me about a 'miracle' that can't possibly exist?"
"This is not a problem of 'God,' but a problem of 'probability' and 'psychology'—if you have carefully studied the information on an individual named 'Levy,' you will understand that he is a monster who can seek 'results' from extreme probabilities."
Lawrence's words made Samuel raise an eyebrow, and he then said something half-jokingly.
"A 'monster' like you?"
Lawrence was silent for a moment; he seemed to be seriously considering the question.
A moment later.
"Yes and no."
"I obtained the result through calculation, while he, like a wild beast, could sit down by instinct."
"Even... in extreme cases, he might do better than me."
"Because I am a 'human,' not a god."
Humans are rational and capable of thinking.
"This is both a human strength and a human weakness."
Samuel understood at that moment.
"So, you're very interested in that beast?"
"Yes, that's where my interest started, but after the first and only direct encounter, my interest waned."
"Can you imagine? A wild beast trying to 'make friends' with a group of mentally challenged people."
"He even went so far as to 'keep himself at home' for this purpose."
"Can a 'wild beast' that has been domesticated still be called a wild beast?"
"No, it should be called 'livestock'."
"I'm interested in a 'beast' capable of tearing my throat open to bring me the pleasure of the 'hunt,' rather than a 'clucking' hen preparing to stuff herself into the oven."
"What I want is not to 'fill my stomach' like the old man, but to experience the joy that 'hunting' itself brings."
Samuel understood again.
"I get it, you're a complete pervert."
Lawrence, however, was not angry; in fact, he seemed to agree with her.
"Maybe it's true, as you say, that I'm a pervert."
However, Samuel did not dwell on the issue, but instead raised a newly conceived question.
"So, why are you suddenly interested in that 'livestock' again?"
"Um……"
Lawrence remained silent for a moment.
"Because I'm very bored and need some fun to fill the emptiness inside me."
"So, I plan to use Khadgar, this 'boar,' to smash down the 'fence' that's keeping him in place."
Samuel thought about it... but couldn't figure it out.
His strength lies in combat, not in "guessing riddles".
However, he didn't dwell on it too much.
In his view, this was nothing more than Lawrence's "game".
And the result will inevitably be the same as always, ending in Lawrence's victory.
"Okay, I'll go."
"However, you'll have to arrange the latest 'Holy Body II' modification for me. The modification cost of sixty million US dollars is not a price that I, a 'mercenary,' can afford."
However, to Samuel's surprise, Lawrence refused.
"I can give you 60 million directly, but I won't arrange that 'Holy Body II' modification for you. Remember what I told you? The 'Holy Body' modification has a fatal flaw."
Samuel remembered it, even down to the last letter.
"The 'Holy Body' is like a piece of firewood. When it is lit, it emits light and heat. However, if the fire burns too brightly, the wood will turn into 'charcoal.' Because energy is conserved, the power brought by the 'Holy Body' is not generated out of thin air, but is transformed from this energy."
"These are your exact words, I remember them very clearly."
"And my answer was the same as before."
"At least I have the opportunity to 'burn,' so I am willing to use this 'flame' to do what I want to do."
"Whether it's for 'heating' or 'burning'."
Lawrence was somewhat helpless.
"Alright, although I knew this would be the outcome before I even spoke, I still stand by my opinion. Using you for 'Holy Body' modification is like stuffing a perfectly formed, work-of-art 'root carving' into a steam train boiler as fuel... It's an extremely inefficient waste."
Even if it was the last wish of the "root carving" artist himself.
Samuel looked down at the satellite phone in his hand, as if he could see Lawrence's furrowed brow.
However, he just smiled and didn't say anything more.
However, just as he was about to hang up the phone, a voice suddenly came through.
"I hope I didn't interrupt your chat."
