Chapter 266 Awakening
Chapter 266 Awakening
The constable was so frightened that he stumbled back a few steps, bumped his heels, and sat down on the ground.
"Th-that..."
His companion found it strange, went over to check, and then stepped back in the same manner. Fortunately, he didn't fall and was still standing.
"Your brother!" Ning Xiaoxi said regretfully. The Celestial Master Pavilion's residence had been abolished, and these rogue Celestial Masters had no one to rely on, yet they still regarded this place as their sacred land.
Tears welled up in the eyes of the constable.
"He used all his strength to seal away the demons and protect the people of this region. You should be proud!"
The constable knelt by the dry well, turned his head, and, ignoring his own tears streaming down his face, asked, "How can you save my brother?"
Ning Xiaoxi remained silent. Her spirit crystal whip, like a snake, darted into the dry well, coiled around the body's waist, and pulled it out.
Amidst the shimmering silver light, the corpse remained incorruptible, its face lifelike, its expression serene and calm.
Ning Xiaoxi reached her hand to his chest, probing into the silver light, grabbed the black energy, and lifted it up. A black shadow twisted violently in Ning Xiaoxi's hand.
Black runes fell from the sky, accompanied by a silent, shrill scream from the shadowy figure.
Even though they couldn't hear its cries, the two constables could still sense its pain, and they felt a surge of pleasure.
Watching the dark shadow slowly melt away, dissipating in a feeble twist, the constable kowtowed to Ning Xiaoxi, "Thank you!"
"That fetus has demonic energy entering its body, let's expel it!" Ning Xiaoxi's voice held a hint of regret. If it were just possession, she could forcibly pull it out, but it had entered the body through the bones and blood, and could not be retained.
The constable gritted his teeth and nodded. "Okay."
"If the silver light does not dissipate, your brother's body will not decay. You can build a shrine for him to be placed in. When the silver light dissipates, you can move him to the shrine for burial."
The constable nodded cautiously, "Yes."
Ning Xiaoxi turned and stepped out of the gate, then looked back at the two constables. "The Master did not speak of strange phenomena, physical prowess, disorder, or spirits!"
The two constables exchanged a glance and simultaneously replied, "Yes, sir!"
On the map, Sucheng is lit up. Cities dot the western desert region, and the entire northern Youzhou is illuminated. Shouldn't the Third Prince Xia Zhiyin still be in Youzhou? How come the whole region is lit up? Does having a human body allow him to evade radar?
A red thread leads to the next city, with three bright red dots scattered throughout Maocheng.
Are they not even giving us rest time? Do they expect us to work like beasts of burden here?
Tuanzi, I miss you so much!
Maocheng is 30 li away from Sucheng. The Mao River flows through the city, and the Yuan River merges with the Mao River outside the city, nurturing a lush paddy field, giving it a distinct water town feel.
Settling on a small hillside where the two rivers meet, watching the water flow slowly and listening to the fish being swallowed after sinking to the bottom, um, it's truly full of life.
Inside the cave, the tree spirit and the flower spirit fought. The flower spirit was no match for the tree spirit and was beaten into pieces, its petals falling away.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, the flower fairy moved closer to Jiuyu, swaying her branches and spreading her fragrance, only to be slapped back to the tree fairy by Jiuyu.
The tree spirit shook its branches, causing its leaves to fall from its body.
The flower fairy shook off the broken petals, removed the shattered leaves, and cleaned herself up. She stood tall and graceful, forming a stark contrast with the disheveled tree fairy.
The tree spirit was furious. It swept away all the fallen leaves and covered the base of the tree with the petals that the flower spirit had thrown away. Instantly, it became incredibly charming.
Ning Xiaoxi watched the two demons fight with great interest, laughing uncontrollably.
A rocking chair was placed beside Jiu Yu, gently swaying. A small illusory python crawled out of the hut, swam to Ning Xiaoxi's lap, and coiled up. Ning Xiaoxi raised her hand and gently stroked its smooth scales, which were still a little soft; it seemed it would sleep for a while longer.
Jiuyu opened one eye to look at her, then closed it again and continued sleeping.
The ten bright orbs on the mulberry tree dimmed, and the light became just right for sleeping.
It's rare to wake up naturally. When I wake up, I smell the faint scent of grass and flowers in the fresh air, and I feel relaxed and happy.
I placed the rocking chair on the hillside and watched the fish jumping in the river. It was a rare moment of refreshing peace and tranquility.
The sensor covered the entire city of Maocheng, and sure enough, the Celestial Master Pavilion was no longer there.
The subtle pressure intensified, and the three red dots within the city began to stir.
Soon, two red dots sped towards the outskirts of the city.
A black cat arrived first, its golden eyes looking at Ning Xiaoxi with lively interest.
A parrot flew over, hovered for a moment, and then obediently landed next to the black cat.
Ning Xiaoxi sighed. These two couldn't even transform into human form, and each only had half a demon core. How could she possibly destroy them? It just didn't feel right.
[Don't kill them. Seal their demon cores and let them live as demon beasts.]
"[Tuanzi!]" Ning Xiaoxi sat up happily. "[You've leveled up?]"
[Lighting up the map is a side effect of the upgrade, Xiaoxi, please don't worry about it.]
Ning Xiaoxi waved her hand, "Why did the upgrade happen so suddenly this time?"
[This was triggered by Lu Wu and the other divine beasts.]
Ning Xiaoxi recalled those enormous yet wooden bodies and Lu Wu's broken soul in the cave, which was so damaged that it could barely maintain its form. They were once the darlings of this world!
Ning Xiaoxi didn't press the matter of leveling up further. She pointed at the two little demons and asked, "What did you say we could do with them?"
The demon is too weak to be worth killing; sealing its core will suffice.
[Sealing the demon's core means being reborn as a beast for life, with no chance of ascending to heaven. This truly means severing all pathways!]
But they can live!
Ning Xiaoxi looked up at the two demons. The black cat's golden eyes were filled with sorrow, and the parrot blinked silently.
Ning Xiaoxi stepped off the rocking chair, squatted down in front of the two demons, and gently tapped their heads with her slender fingers. "I know you can understand. You are too small to be killed, but you can't be spared either. There are two paths: kill you, or seal your demon cores and turn you into beasts from now on."
The parrot tilted its head, and the black cat lowered its head.
[Ding! Demon-Suppressing Rune Awakened. It suppresses the demonic core and its source of evil from both the soul and body levels. Its immense power can suppress the very essence of the demonic core and its source of evil, plunging it into a dormant state. If it is not unsealed, it will never be able to cultivate again.]
The familiar notification sound rang out, a familiar warm current surged into my mind, and golden runes flowed across my fingertips, quickly completing the training.
A finger gently touched the parrot's head, and on its imperfect demon core, a simple and ancient character "镇" (zhen, meaning "to suppress" or "to pacify") slowly emerged. At the core of this character, the strokes were thick and possessed a unique, curved arc, with intricate patterns and mysterious runes etched within them. A ring of flame-like patterns encircled the character, the flame lines lively and leaping, their crimson color contrasting sharply with the deep gray of the character.
As the runes were completed, the liveliness in the parrot's eyes gradually faded, leaving only bewilderment and ignorance. Then, it cried out and flew away.
Ning Xiaoxi turned to look at the black cat.
The black cat stared intently at Ning Xiaoxi with its golden eyes, and Ning Xiaoxi raised an eyebrow slightly. The black cat licked Ning Xiaoxi's fingers with its small tongue, the moist touch reaching the softest part of her heart.
