Chapter 7 Zhu Shulan: ─━_─━✧
Chapter 7 Zhu Shulan: ─━_─━✧
"Sis...do you want to put down flowers...?"
"Put your clothes on first."
"yeah!"
There was a huge pile of fireworks and firecrackers on Lu Chi's side, but Zhu Huiqing's stamina was far less than that of the fully automatic troublemaker. She played with her for a while but couldn't stand the cold, so she came back first. After she finished washing up and changing into her pajamas, she saw her sister carrying her little blanket and tiptoeing towards Lu Chi's bedroom.
"Zhu Shulan!!"
"Ah... oh... hiss..."
What are you doing?
Zhu Shulan's eyes darted around, and she puffed out her chest, trying to act like an older sister: "You, you're all grown up now, Huiqing. You can learn to sleep by yourself now. I can't, I, I'm scared!"
Zhu Huiqing forced out a few words through gritted teeth: "Get back here, take a shower, and brush your teeth! Hurry up! You're sleeping with me!"
"oh..."
Zhu Huiqing had drunk some alcohol, but her senses were actually quite shallow. She was woken up in the early hours of the morning by the octopus-like Zhu Shulan. Her throat was incredibly dry, and the urge to urinate felt like ants crawling on her. She nudged Zhu Shulan and repeatedly reminded her, "Sister... Sister... Remember to get up and pee in a bit... Otherwise, I'll hang you and the sheets on the clothesline outside tomorrow!"
"oh..."
Zhu Shulan hummed softly, hugged the blanket, buried her face in it, and continued to snore softly.
Zhu Huiqing was relieved. She slipped on her slippers, opened the door, walked to the restroom at the end of the corridor, and after urinating, she subconsciously wanted to turn off the light. She quickly realized that it was New Year's Day, and according to Yanchuan's custom, the lights had to be on until the fifteenth of the month.
She paused as she passed the stairs, then tiptoed down.
The lobby downstairs was brightly lit and very warm, with the occasional gurgling sound of hot spring water flowing through the water pipes on the walls and underfoot.
Apart from that, it was so quiet it felt like entering another dimension.
Zhu Huiqing felt a sudden pang of panic. She took a few quick steps and saw that the fire in the fireplace had gone out and there was no dark red left. She hurriedly put some birch bark in and added some durable logs with bark. Only then did she breathe a sigh of relief and walk around to the other side of the wall.
The bed was messy and empty, with a note stuck to the headboard: "Went into the mountains."
Zhu Huiqing pursed her lips, walked to the bedside, and absentmindedly folded the quilt and tidied the pillows. As she folded, she drifted off into thought, tilted her head back slightly like a mischievous cat, and then pounced on the bed, taking a deep breath: "Mmm~ Mmm~".
She rolled around and eventually wrapped herself in the blanket.
Then...
And that was the end of it.
By the time Zhu Huiqing poked her head out from under the covers, it was already broad daylight. She had been standing stiffly by the bed for who knows how long, her lips pouting, her eyes clear as the first rays of sunlight: "─━_─━✧".
Zhu Huiqing was stunned. She curled her toes and desperately threw back the covers: "Sis, shall we get in?"
"Okay!!"
Before dawn, Lu Chitian had already made his way to the vicinity of the crime scene. Behind him were three dogs wagging their tails and following him. One was a Samoyed, another was also a Samoyed, and the last one was two heads taller than them, with long gray-blue fur and golden-blue-black eyes. At least in appearance, it was a real vicious dog.
Lu Chi's mountain goods, which he had been saving for a long time, were scattered everywhere during the "shock and awe" incident. Mixed with the dirty snowdrifts, he knelt down, got up, bent over, and dug at his backside for several hours to collect them. He only managed to recover a small portion, looking like a pitiful garbage collector scavenging for scraps.
Sika deer antlers, wild boar tusks, old holly, and birch polypore are just ordinary local specialties. In the bitter cold of sub-zero temperatures, with snow blocking the mountains and trees covered in frost, even the most discerning eyes would eventually go blind searching for anything here, which is why they seem so precious.
"Add some more Dark Blue! Come on! Add some more!"
Lu Chi pulled two backpacks out of the snowdrift and tied them to his dark blue work clothes. Now he had five backpacks on him, but the weight was obviously nothing to him.
Lu Chi circled the crime scene several times but didn't see any extra footprints.
On the newly fallen, white snow, a glaring crimson glimpse would occasionally appear. The congealed blood and bits of flesh, like a gigantic mass of dead nerve cells, splattered and radiated outwards, their multi-legged, mollusc-like trails covering an area of hundreds of meters. Even the bare tree trunks and stumps, stripped of their bark and broken, were covered with bits of flesh. At the very center of this hellish scene, only half a tattered leather tube remained, containing a few relatively intact pieces of bloody bone.
Great, everything is normal.
Meanwhile, Grey Wolf and Pretty Sheep were so bored that they had already started flirting on the spot and were about to enter the ancient method of producing puppies. Their dog faces were filled with a kind of intellectual and masculine radiance.
"Waaah~"
Deep Blue suddenly let out a low growl.
"Clatter".
The tiny, emaciated creature, curled up like a kitten, fell out of the leather tube when Lu Chi picked it up. It probably weighed less than a pound. Two puffs of white steam slowly came out of its nostrils, and its body was covered with half-dried flesh and blood, half-dead.
Tsk...
It's quite good at hiding things.
Lu Chichong waved his hand dismissively, "Get to work!"
Destroying evidence in winter is a hassle. Grey Wolf and Pretty Sheep can't be relied on. Deep Blue grinned and began to physically destroy the visible DNA evidence chains. In short, it was a very hard job.
Taking advantage of this moment, Lu Chi tied the leather tube with a rope, stuffed the little thing inside, tossed it aside, and picked up some birch bark and loose branches to burn off two cans of beef for himself.
It's not that this stuff is particularly essential or delicious; the main thing is that Lu Chi knows a hapless guy who lost everything trying to make a living by dealing in this stuff. In the end, that loser shamelessly sold him a whole tractor-load of various near-expiry canned goods at bargain prices.
Heavy on oil, salt, and additives, it's not so bad for human blood to be thick and prevent high blood pressure, but cats and dogs might really suffer from intestinal problems if they eat it, and easily get a minor illness costing a thousand or eight hundred yuan. So Lu Chi can only make do with it and estimate that he can eat it until next winter.
After finishing his meal and maintaining vital signs, he kicked the fire a few times, buried the snow, and hurried towards the next location to bury the mountain goods, his steps uneven.
In just the last two days, his performance-based pay has been significantly depleted by various wild animals in the mountains: Deep Blue carried five bags, Gray Wolf carried four, and Pretty Sheep carried three...
Two of them were even sleeping bags and spare supplies that were brought with them on this trip into the mountains.
Lu Chi himself was in no better shape. The leather tube, soaked in blood and covered in snow and ice, was just like the other bundle of deer antlers and wild boar skulls—cold, heavy, and stabbing at the lower back. It was practically torture; even a dog wouldn't carry it...
He carried it on his back.
You only have one life, but there are many things that can be fatal. Master Lu's mental fortitude has become so fragile that he doesn't even want to drink the bitterness of coffee anymore.
