Chapter 2 Preliminary Ideas for a God Among Mortals
Chapter 2 Preliminary Ideas for a God Among Mortals
[Among the transmigrators...]
[Transportation successful. Welcome to the Warhammer 40 world.]
A flash of white light, and the sky changed drastically!
Wearing it again?!
However, when Titus opened his eyes again, nothing had changed.
Under the blue sky, on the clean streets, amidst towering medical and institutional buildings, elites hurrying by with Starbucks in hand, and Old White pushing his lawnmower with a beaming smile, accompanied by the barking of his dog in his yard.
Everything he saw clearly told him that he was still in Illinois!
Titus instinctively breathed a sigh of relief; the scene was reminiscent of Homelander fleeing Soldier Boy.
But then he began to ponder:
Have I fallen into Tzeentch's trap?
Actually, I've already traveled through time.
But He deceived my eyes with some kind of magic?
Titus had wielded a warhammer in his previous life, and as far as he knew, Tzeentch was the god of wisdom and change.
Or is it that the system malfunctioned and there was no time travel at all?
[Please report to the Imperial Recruiting Office ahead immediately.]
Ahead?
Titus stared at the FBL building in front of him and fell silent.
This broken system took so long to arrive, and it's still a malfunctioning system!
[Task Reward: The first three of 22 exquisite minor surgeries]
The system must be blind, so Titus decided to ignore it and strode into the Chicago Field Office building (FBI Chicago).
He was going to the BSU (Behavioral Analysis Unit), which specializes in criminal profiling and behavioral analysis.
Logically speaking, he is not from the BSU, but belongs to the VCU (Violent Crime Unit) under the CID (Criminal Investigation Division).
But the Chicago FBI's SAC (Supervisor Special Agent), simply put, is the head of all FBLs in Chicago, and his superior, Titus's boss.
This SAC is named Jack Crawford, but that's not important. What's important is that he's currently the interim head of BSU, which is currently facing a lot of criticism because of Hannibal Lecter.
BSU was largely involved in Hannibal's decision to be deemed criminally irresponsible and to waive the death penalty. As a result, the former head of BSU was removed from his post, forcing Crawford to temporarily take over and clean up the mess.
And his immediate superior, Crawford, now specifically requests to see him.
He wasn't sure if there was a tradition of receiving outstanding West Point graduates here, but he had a strange sixth sense that this was a trap.
Lost in thought, Titus knocked on the door of the BSU director's office.
"Please come in."
The voice was brief and powerful.
Titus pushed open the door, and Crawford was sitting behind a desk. In front of the desk, besides Titus, stood a woman.
Crawford was a middle-aged, dark-skinned man with a robust physique, but he looked rather haggard, which was quite obvious: deep dark circles under his eyes, black coffee on his desk, and even several empty wine bottles that had rolled to the ground.
He must have been tormented by the Hannibal Lecter incident.
Good morning, Agent Titus Gallagher!
"Good morning, sir."
"I hope I didn't scare you by calling you on your first day."
"Won't."
"Have you ever worked in finance? Are you satisfied with the salary?"
His salary consists of three parts: regional allowance, law enforcement allowance, and base salary, with a net monthly salary of $7000.
This means he has entered the middle class and no longer needs to eat expired cookies and discounted milk every day.
Titus replied, "Satisfied."
Crawford said, "Well then, welcome to the FBI!"
Titus paused for a moment, and the subtitles reappeared before his eyes:
[Check-in successful, mission complete]
[Reward has been issued. Please go to an unoccupied area to collect your reward.]
In an instant, Titus sensed something new deep within his sea of consciousness, something he could retrieve at any time if he wanted.
Is this system blind? How can it give you things?
If it's true...
Titus felt a surge of excitement upon hearing this. He knew the significance of the 22 surgeries, which were physical modifications performed on the original Space Marines. If they were to be realized, it would be no exaggeration to say that he would become the strongest human on Earth, a god among men!
In an instant, Titus, who had originally planned to give up, had a new goal: the gods among men!
"Don't get too excited."
Crawford noticed the slight tremor in Titus's body and assumed he was the kind of person who loved shouting "FBI," the kind who would suddenly appear from some nook or cranny in an American TV show with a warrant drawn.
"This isn't some recruit training camp, don't get too excited."
"Listen, I have a job for you now."
Crawford continued:
"We are building a psychological summary database, and the subjects of our interviews and investigations are incarcerated criminals."
"But the criminal we most want to obtain data from is refusing to cooperate. I need you to go to the mental hospital to find him tomorrow."
Titus noticed that he said "you all" instead of "you," and he guessed that Crawford was referring to the woman standing next to him.
She was a Caucasian woman with neat, shoulder-length hair and a petite figure, like a rabbit police officer. However, she had deep-set features and a shrewd glint in her eyes, like a detective who got things done.
Titus noticed the name tag on her uniform: Clarice M. Starling.
Clarice M. Starling…
Crawford, Starling, and Hannibal on the radio this morning.
Alright, I should have realized it sooner; the person I was looking for was definitely Mads Mikkelsen.
It was only then that Titus realized that the classic character Hannibal was fictional, or at least the prototype wasn't named that. Since he could come to the world of "Shameless," it wouldn't be surprising to add "The Silence of the Lambs" as well.
What can be done?
Titus accepted it very quickly, almost as fast as Uncle Leon meeting the Thunder Crocodile on his first day of work. After all, he was chosen by the Emperor, and since such outrageous things had already happened, nothing more mattered.
Hannibal is a master of psychology, highly capable, and a high-IQ criminal, but in his eyes, he hasn't taken that step yet, so he's just like that.
And he, Titus, was about to take that step. After undergoing the first three surgeries of the Primal Forged Warrior, he would no longer be considered human, at least not a pure human. Once he completed all the surgeries and was completely transformed into a Primal Forged Warrior, he wouldn't even be considered humanoid.
He's not even human anymore, what makes Hannibal compare to him? And most importantly, he's read the original book and remembers the general plot.
As Tytus predicted, Crawford said:
"The criminal you are questioning is a psychiatrist, Dr. Hannibal Lecter."
He handed over a questionnaire, which was used to build a psychological database, specifically for questioning Hannibal.
Crawford continued
"You two can team up temporarily. There's an old saying in the East: 'Men and women working together makes the work easier.'"
After saying this, Crawford's lips curled up, thinking he had made a good joke and lightened the mood. Then Titus saw a mischievous braised egg showing off a bit of white teeth.
Titus and Clarice exchanged a glance, finding the proverb rather cold, but the BSU and CID partnership was an old FBI tradition—one handling analysis, the other execution. Like the Hong Kong police or Gotham City police, a two-person team was the standard for missions. The difference was that the FBI rarely had long-term kidnapping partnerships; most were temporary.
At that moment, the subtitles flashed before Titus's eyes again:
[Having enlisted, you receive your first mission and swear to serve the Emperor!]
[Mission: Assist your partner in judging heretics]
[Mission Reward: Fourth Minor Surgery - Blood Regeneration of Organs]
Transplanting it will completely change the composition of your blood, carrying far more oxygen and nutrients than ordinary people. If ordinary blood is like tap water, then your blood is like vodka mixed with whiskey! Your energy will be beyond your imagination!
Blood regeneration of organs…
The trial of Hannibal the heretic…
Titus picked up the documents and said seriously:
"Mission accomplished!"
After leaving the office, Titus and Clarice exchanged contact information and agreed to go to trial the heretic the next morning. After parting ways, Titus rushed home, as he couldn't wait to undergo the first three surgeries.
