Chapter 423 Being Hunted
Chapter 423 Being Hunted
“Maxim Kos!” Aria shouted, and the light in the boy’s eyes vanished instantly, the candy bag clattering to the ground.
At dinner, Arya watched as the two children fought over the last piece of synthetic meat patty in the manner of ordinary children, feeling both gratified and worried.
For six years, she taught them to hide their special abilities in front of others and to survive in the harsh environment of Ash Planet.
But as they grow older, controlling their power becomes increasingly difficult.
"How was school today?" she asked, trying to keep a casual tone.
“Boring,” Max muttered. “The teacher’s calculations of planetary orbits were all wrong.”
Lila nodded in agreement: "I can tell he's lying. He says the Empire cares about the outlying planets, but all he thinks about is his salary."
Arya's fork scraped across the plate with a harsh sound.
The children's perception and intelligence far surpass those of their peers, a gift from royal genes, but also a dangerous sign.
“Baby,” she put down her utensils, “it’s impolite to think about what others think. You promised Mommy you wouldn’t do that, right?”
The twins exchanged a glance, their synchronization was astonishing.
“But Mom,” Lila tilted her head, “why can’t we tell anyone we can see light? Maxie says it’s our secret.”
Arya's stomach tightened.
One day she will have to tell them the truth, but not now, not when she is too old to even protect herself.
"Because..." Her words were interrupted by a sudden alarm.
The holographic news projection automatically activated, displaying an imperial announcement: the second prince, Leon Augustus, has been officially named crown prince and is engaged to the eldest daughter of the Ster family.
The Leon in the picture is more imposing than Arya remembers, his icy blue eyes as sharp as when she last saw him.
As the camera zoomed in, she noticed that he was wearing a mecha engineer's ring on his right ring finger—exactly the same as the one she had years ago.
Maxi suddenly pointed at the screen: "Mom, that person has the same light in their eyes as we do!"
Arya's heart almost stopped beating.
She quickly turned off the projector, but it was too late.
Lila's eyes widened: "Is he our father?"
Just then, the apartment doorbell rang.
Through the surveillance camera, Aria saw two tall men in plain clothes standing outside the door. Their posture was so upright that they didn't look like residents of the mining area.
One of them inadvertently revealed the weapon on his belt: a standard-issue phase gun of the Royal Guard.
"Get into the secret room, now!" Arya commanded the children in a low voice, activating the jammer on her wrist at the same time.
During her six years on the run, she never stopped renovating her home.
Once the children were safely hidden, she took a deep breath, picked up her homemade pulse pistol, and headed for the door.
No matter who they are, she will not let them take her child away.
This time, Jaeger engineer Aria Koss did not run away.
When the doorbell rang for the third time, Aria had already adjusted the pulse pistol to maximum power.
Through the hidden camera in the access control system, she saw the two men exchange a wary glance—a standard tactical assessment maneuver, the training of the Royal Guard was too obvious.
"Routine inspection by Ashstar Mining Company."
The man on the left spoke into the intercom, his voice deliberately lowered, "Please cooperate and open the door."
lie.
Arya's fingers slid rapidly across the control panel, activating the apartment's defense system.
For six years, she transformed this dilapidated mining apartment into a small fortress.
Now it's time to test whether all the modifications are effective.
"Please show the authorization code." She deliberately made her voice sound tired and impatient while secretly activating the jammer.
The scanning equipment outside the door will temporarily malfunction, giving her a precious few dozen seconds.
The man on the right impatiently pulled out a holographic projector, but the image only flickered once before disappearing.
The way he frowned and patted the equipment almost made Aria sneer.
These royal agents, accustomed to high-end equipment, had no idea how severe the electromagnetic interference was on the edge of the planet.
“System malfunction, please check manually.” She continued to stall for time while quickly checking the surveillance footage of the secret room.
Maxi and Lila were safely sheltered in a wall cavity, which she had modified from a discarded mining mech's radiation shield, capable of blocking most vital signs scans.
The agent on the left suddenly drew his phase gun.
“Enough, Arya Kos. We know you're in there, and we know those two bastards are in there.” His voice was completely unmasked. “We're ordered to reclaim the royal bloodline.”
Arya's blood instantly froze.
They found out; after six years of careful concealment, they had still been discovered.
"You have three seconds to consider surrendering." The agent pointed the phase gun at the door lock. "Three—"
Arya pressed the detonation switch.
A blinding blue light suddenly erupted from the corridor outside the door; her homemade electromagnetic pulse device had been precisely detonated.
The two agents screamed as their neural interface equipment instantly overloaded.
But this can only buy a short time; the Royal Agents' combat suits have backup systems.
She rushed to the workbench, grabbed the prepared escape kit and two modified mining laser knives.
The moment the door to the secret room slid open, the two children rushed into her arms.
"Mommy, who are those bad guys?" Lila's face turned pale, and her eyes flashed with fear.
“There’s no time to explain.” Arya placed a breathing mask over her daughter’s face. “Remember the escape route we practiced. Go to the old hangar and find Uncle Hawke.”
Maxi broke free from her hand and ran to the window.
“Mom, there are even more people!” he pointed downstairs. “They’ve surrounded the whole building!”
Arya's heart sank.
Looking down from the seventh-floor window, at least twelve fully armed men were setting up a cordon.
This is no ordinary arrest team, but an elite commando unit.
It's unknown who would risk exposing their actions on a remote planet just to obtain her child.
“Plans changed.” She made a quick decision. “Maxie, take this.”
She shoved a miniature controller into her son's hand, asking, "Remember how Mom taught you to operate a drone?"
The boy nodded, and the blue light in his eyes grew even brighter.
Arya kissed the two children on the forehead, then lifted the hidden panel on the floor.
"Go down the maintenance tunnel to the basement, then activate the drone to disrupt them. Mom will distract them from the front, and you two take the opportunity to run to Uncle Hawke's place, understand?"
"No!" Lila suddenly grabbed her arm, the little girl's eyes wide open. "Those people, they're thinking about killing us! I can see them!"
Aria held her daughter's trembling body tightly.
She should have known that a child with royal blood could not hide their abilities forever.
But now is not the time to be surprised.
