Chapter 23 Terrifying Legends
Chapter 23 Terrifying Legends
Debbie's question.
Jimmy couldn't help but glance at Meng Ran.
In an instant, he remembered the argument he had just had with Darl, and the day Thea said she was researching Digg's promotion.
A bad feeling crept into my heart.
He immediately shook his head, trying to reassure himself, "Impossible, impossible! How could they possibly push a post to the front page just because they registered a few accounts temporarily in the last few days?"
Comfort is comfort.
His body, however, was quite honest.
I quickly turned on the computer and opened Digg's homepage.
Debbie and two other full-time employees also leaned closer, staring at the computer screen.
After you can see the content on the screen clearly.
Jimmy muttered as he read the headline: "Performance Art or Mental Derangement? A Brazilian Woman Holds a Wedding with a Tree Stump."
After reading it, he asked, puzzled, "What does this mean?"
During the inquiry, he also clicked on the blog post link.
The content is not complicated.
It consisted of speculative captions, along with candid photos of "Cerone wearing a leaf wedding dress" and "a tree stump wearing a suit" holding a wedding.
The blog post has an overall style that is sinister, cultish, and conspiracy-themed.
This is quite in line with the preferences of users in the novelty-seeking section.
However, Jimmy had no time to care about whether he liked it or not. After flipping through the photos, he finally recognized Theron.
"Didn't this woman visit the association a few days ago? Clarissa and Bane received her."
"It seems so." Debbie nodded.
"So, this woman is the donor of that $15?" Jimmy deduced.
Upon hearing this, a full-time employee suddenly said, "I remember now, I overheard Dahl mention something the other day about Bane trying to turn clients into environmental stars. Could it be her?"
"An environmental ambassador?"
Both Jimmy and Debbie's expressions turned strange upon hearing this.
Jimmy glanced at Meng Ran again and couldn't help but ask, "The question is, what does this post have to do with environmental celebrities?"
The question has not yet been answered.
Little Dahl's voice came from afar.
"Hey Jimmy, if I were you, I'd be on my computer right now, looking at Digg's homepage. Seeing how ridiculous your criticisms of us were."
Jimmy's face darkened.
Then he spread his hands and said calmly, "What's so interesting? Even if this post were to reach number one, so what?"
The donor's goal was to become an environmental star, but our "clever" Mr. Cole seems to have turned her into a mental patient. It's ridiculous.
"Jimmy, with your intelligence, don't try to guess Bane's plans," Thea said casually.
After saying that, she added, "You'd better hurry up and go to Eunice to complain, so you can try to beg for those bonuses that you don't deserve."
"You!" Jimmy's face flushed red instantly, and he stood up abruptly.
Knowing he was in the wrong, he sat down again and said, "Fine, I'll see what kind of help this kind of random post can actually provide to the client."
"Tch~" Thea let out a disdainful sound.
Seeing this, Debbie couldn't help but comfort her, "Don't be angry, how about we grab a drink together tonight?"
Jimmy was burning with rage. Looking at the alluring Debbie, he hesitated for a long time before finally agreeing.
Time passed slowly.
7 pm.
Under Meng Ran's deliberate control, the post was finally pushed to the top of the homepage.
The blog posts published on the secondary account 【Zero Leaks】have also started to see an increase in actual readership, but the data is actually just average.
8 points.
Inside a hotel room.
Jimmy, who had a heated exchange with Debbie, sat down in front of his computer with a post-coital drink in hand and opened Digg again.
I saw Meng Ran's post was pushed to the top of the homepage.
The anger that had just been vented through indecent means suddenly flared up again.
Debbie, wrapped in a bath towel, came out of the bathroom, walked behind Jimmy, put her arms around his neck across the chair, and looked at the screen.
"Jimmy, stop worrying about this boring stuff."
"I don't understand, how did Bane manage to do that? Where did he get the resources to push this blog post to the top of Digg's homepage?"
"Perhaps we just got lucky; this content just happened to be popular with Digg users?"
"But when I look at the comments under the blog post, there aren't many user comments. It's obvious that this post was pushed up by resources."
Upon hearing this, Debbie turned around and straddled Jimmy's lap from behind the chair.
"Isn't it better if there aren't many comments?"
"This shows that Bane failed; he failed to truly capture the public's attention. His attempt to deceive clients in this way was ultimately exposed."
These few sentences.
This put Jimmy's mind at ease.
But just as his hand touched Debbie's hip, intending to have a proper conversation with her again...
Out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of Digg's homepage, where another post had appeared by "Zero Leaks".
Moreover, this post is ranked third, echoing the first-ranked post.
"WTF?"
Jimmy pulled Debbie off his lap.
Then, she leaned forward, staring intently at the post title on the screen: "[The Truth Behind the Brazilian Woman's Marriage to a Tree Stump: The Horrifying Legend of the Amazonian Tree Spirit]"
Slide the laptop touchpad.
Jimmy clicked on the post and was redirected to the main text of the blog post.
The blog post was very simple, first briefly reviewing the story of "Brazilian woman marrying a tree stump".
Then, a story began to be told.
It is said that in the Amazon rainforest, there is a tree spirit that seduces young men and women; it is formed from the resentment of countless felled trees.
Later in the story.
They also posted a lot of historical evidence that was "difficult to verify" to show that similar things had happened before, in order to increase the sense of authenticity.
to be frank.
The story is highly readable, perfectly matching the public's expectations of the mysterious Amazon and also appealing to Digg users.
Jimmy thinks that if he had seen this story in a normal situation, he might have shared it with others as a topic of conversation during social events.
But now.
He knew that Meng Ran wanted to promote an "environmental celebrity".
Then the story takes a completely different turn.
"Damn it, this story is 100% made up."
After cursing, Jimmy quickly swiped the mouse to look at the comments section of the blog post.
Good guy!
The once quiet comment section suddenly became lively.
Oh my god! Do Amazonian tree spirits really exist?
Yes, I heard my grandmother tell me when I was a child that there is a tree spirit deep in the Amazon that can take the form of a handsome man or a beautiful woman to lure people into marrying them.
Then, on their wedding night, the tree spirit will insert its roots into their partner's body to absorb their nutrients! Good heavens, I thought this was just a story, but it's true!
I've also heard that this is actually one of the top ten evil spirit legends of the Amazon.
[Really? I'm Brazilian, and I've never heard of any legends about the ten most evil spirits in the Amazon.]
I'm Argentinian, and I've heard of it, especially the story of the tree spirits. Whenever the rainforest is extensively logged, tree spirits appear to punish those who destroy it.
So, the woman in the photo also cleared out rainforest?
[Maybe she's the farmer's daughter?]
[Breaking news: The woman in the photo is the daughter of an aluminum mining tycoon in Pará, Brazil]
So, is it because their family's aluminum mining damaged the Amazon rainforest that they were punished by the tree spirits?
[I don't know about that, but I found her blog here. There are many photos of her in the blog's photo album. She's really beautiful (link)]
Jimmy was exhausted by this point.
He angrily pounded on the keyboard.
One commenter wrote: "[This whole tree spirit legend is fake, it's made up to fool you, it's a marketing tactic! This woman is doing this marketing!]"
