Chapter 139 An Encounter
Chapter 139 An Encounter
After being pulled out of the water, Kuroba Kaito was soaking wet and exhausted. He rubbed his aching upper arms and asked, "Shu, why are you here?"
"I was about to ask you that same question," Bai Yexiu said with a smile, arms crossed, looking down at Kaito sitting on the deck. "It's rare to see you suddenly crash. Have you found the cause?"
A night breeze blew by, and Kaito felt a chill. He shivered but continued to explain, "I went to steal the Egg of Memories. On the way back, I think there was a sniper trying to kill me. Luckily, I used a pigeon to cushion the blow. They only shot down my lens and the pigeon."
Bai Yexiu then looked at Kaito's face. Sure enough, the monocle he wore on his right eye was gone, and there seemed to be a red mark at the corner of his eye that looked like a scratch, presumably caused by a bullet grazing at close range. Furthermore, Kaito was holding a box in his other hand, which he hadn't let go of even after it fell into the sea.
"Come with me, I'll go and get the boat to shore right now." Bai Yexiu turned around and headed to the captain's cabin to change course.
Another gust of night wind blew by, and Kaito shivered again, reaching out to grab Shiroya's pants.
"Xiao Xiu... I'm so cold..."
Hearing this aggrieved statement, Bai Yexiu shook his head helplessly, took off his trench coat and was about to put it on Kaito, but stopped halfway through the action.
"What's wrong?"
Noticing that Byakuya's eyes were fixed on the cloak behind Kaito, which was wrinkled from being wet, Kaito sat up and turned to look—
Inside the cloak was a fish as long as a hand, its head buried in the cloak while its tail thrashed violently in the air. And it seemed as if I had just been leaning against that fish...
Kaito yelled and jumped up, hiding behind Bai Yexiu. The fish, caught by the cloak, was thrown out and fell into the sea.
Byakuya was already used to Kaito's behavior, so he patted his head symbolically to comfort him, and then draped his trench coat over Kaito's shoulders.
After all, Kaito is most afraid of fish.
"Hmm?" Kaito suddenly sniffed and looked at Byakuya suspiciously: "Is it just my imagination? Why do you smell of blood?"
Bai Yexiu quickly took a step back to create distance between them, feigning panic as he said, "Oh dear, is the smell that strong? I just went to the kitchen for a while and sneaked a bite of duck blood."
"Duck blood?"
Kaito glanced towards the cabin and quickly believed him: "I knew it. So you like to eat duck blood?"
"You just don't know. Come on, let's go to the captain's cabin, it's warmer there." Bai Yexiu quickly pulled Kaito along and headed towards the captain's cabin, which was a little further away.
Kaito smelled the blood on him, and given the pile of corpses in the cabin, he dared not let Kaito wander off alone. He had to get him away as soon as possible, lest Kaito discover his true identity...
Bai Yexiu dared not even imagine the consequences.
He didn't want to lose this good friend he'd known since childhood, so he could only coax him again and again.
The two chatted all the way to the captain's cabin. Bai Yexiu changed course, found Kaito some clothes, and then pulled him to sit down in front of the fireplace to warm up.
Is this your boat?
"To be precise, it belongs to a friend of my father's. I sneaked aboard. They're discussing business in the cabin, and I wouldn't dare go in." Bai Yexiu glanced at his watch again, worried. "The ship will dock in a few minutes, and I'm leaving soon. If they find out I sneaked aboard and changed course, I'll get a scolding again."
Because Byakuya's acting was so realistic and natural, Kaito completely believed him and forgot all the doubts he had previously noticed: "I understand, I understand. Thank you for today's help. I will definitely find the person who shot me!"
"You should be more careful in the future. Look at you, you almost..." Bai Yexiu handed him a band-aid. "Just to be on the safe side, you should cover it up."
Looking at the cute little black cat pattern on the band-aid, Kaito couldn't help but laugh: "Pfft, the little cat on this band-aid really looks like you. After all these years, you still like to buy things with cute patterns."
"Shut up."
……
Taking advantage of the brief moment the boat approached the shore, the two jumped ashore and watched as the boat, which had already set its course, sailed away from the shore. They exchanged a knowing smile and gave each other a high five.
—Even though there were no living people on the ship.
The two parted ways quickly, but Bai Yexiu hadn't walked far down that road when the siren of an ambulance ahead caught his attention.
There was a damaged motorcycle in front of a car, and Hattori Heiji looked injured, so the arriving doctor carried him into the ambulance.
Bai Yexiu walked straight along the roadside, feeling that he was really unlucky, and just hoped that no one would notice him.
After all, this is a relatively remote roadway, and it's inevitable that people would be suspicious if he walked here alone late at night.
Just before being lifted into the ambulance, Hattori Heiji noticed Byakuya Osamu walking by the roadside railing, but he was quickly taken away in the ambulance.
A middle school student-looking boy was walking slowly along the roadside late at night, wearing only a thin white shirt and carrying a black trench coat.
Hattori Heiji's detective instincts told him something was wrong, but he was already in an ambulance and unable to move.
Not long after the ambulance carrying Heiji Hattori left, Conan arrived at the scene.
He had witnessed someone shoot Kidd with a sniper rifle, and now Kidd was nowhere to be found, and the killer was also lost.
Just when he was at his wit's end, Conan vaguely saw a white figure in the distance...
That figure!
Conan quickly closed the distance, afraid of being discovered too soon, and kept looking for trees by the roadside to help him hide. But in fact, Bai Yexiu had already noticed the movement behind him and rubbed his forehead speechlessly.
My luck is really bad today...
Now that Gin isn't answering his phone and Bourbon is too far away, he wanted to ask one of Gin's team members to come pick him up, but he realized he didn't have their contact information at all. In this desolate area, he couldn't even hail a taxi. Now he had no choice but to walk back.
He was about to leave when, in his eagerness to get back, he ran into Conan and Heiji Hattori.
Bai Yexiu regretted not taking the same route as Kaito. Although Kaito's route had no signal, was much longer, and not convenient, and Kaito's locator had fallen into the sea, making it difficult for Terai's butler to find his location for a while, at least Terai's butler would eventually come to pick him up.
As the distance closed, Conan gradually made out the figure in front of him—it was Jundo, a member of the organization!
He recalled the sniper he had seen shoot Kidd, but quickly dismissed the idea. The sniper's physique suggested an adult, while Jundu's build resembled that of a middle school student, almost identical to the slender middle schooler like Ryuzawa.
Suddenly, a gust of wind blew in, carrying a faint smell of blood towards Conan, and the boy in front of him stopped and slowly turned around...
Before Conan could even be shocked, a black mass rushed into his vision. With the help of the wind and its close proximity, the black mass quickly flew to Conan's head and covered his face.
Oops!
It was hard to panic and tear it off. He realized it was the black trench coat that Jun Du had been holding a moment ago. He could faintly hear a boy's teasing chuckle in his ear, but there was no one in front of him.
