Chapter 12 Going to the Fireworks Factory
Chapter 12 Going to the Fireworks Factory
The car bumped along until it arrived at the commune bus station, where Zhaoyuan woke up the two sisters.
The two sisters rubbed their eyes. Zhao Zhaodi, carrying a book, and Zhao Laidi, carrying fried dough sticks, got off the bus with their father. As they walked along the country road home, the two sisters felt extremely tired.
Adding to the problem, it was sunny and noon today, so my legs were really giving out.
Zhao Lai Di was clearly unable to walk.
"Laidi, you can't walk anymore, can you? Let's rest for a while before we go on."
Zhao Yuan said.
Arriving under a shady tree, Zhao Yuan found three large rocks, and each person sat on one of them.
The three of them sat down under the shade of a tree to rest for a while before continuing their journey.
Zhao Zhaodi took out a copy of "Journey to the West" and started reading, while Zhao Laidi also took out a copy and started reading.
Zhao Yuan stood quietly to the side, watching the two sisters.
These two sisters are so sensible; they always complete whatever their parents ask them to do perfectly. Unlike my son from my past life, who was practically a debt collector.
"Zhaodi, Laidi, you must read these books carefully. Don't just read them as novels. You must savor the descriptive techniques and memorize the wonderful sentences."
"Oh?"
Zhao Di looked up at Zhao Yuan.
"Journey to the West is a classic, with many wonderful sentences. Read it more, memorize it more, and accumulate more knowledge. Writing essays will become a natural process in the future."
Zhao Yuan said.
"Okay, let's read it carefully, and my sister and I will copy down the good sentences."
Zhao Zhaodi said.
"Okay, you and your sister should study hard. Dad will take you to the Xinhua Bookstore in the province later. They have even more books there. Remember, studying can change your destiny."
Zhao Yuan said.
"Ok."
The two sisters answered excitedly in unison.
After reading for a while, the two sisters put their books away, and the three of them walked home together.
"Mom, we bought you the best fried dough sticks."
As she approached her house, Zhao Laidi quickly ran home with the fried dough sticks in her hand. She saw her mother holding her younger sister sitting in the main room, and Zhao Laidi happily waved the fried dough sticks in her hand.
"You're back. Was the county fun? Tell me about it."
Lin Fangfang placed Zhao Nana in the cradle next to her and smiled as she took the fried dough cake from Zhao Laidi's hands.
Lai Di looked at her younger sister sleeping in the cradle next to her. The younger sister was sleeping peacefully, occasionally sucking her lips and showing a little smile.
After looking at her younger sister, Zhao Laidi moved a long bench and sat in front of her mother, her eyes filled with the sight of fried dough.
"You want to eat it, right?"
Lin Fangfang said with a smile.
"Ah."
Zhao Lai Di smiled and nodded.
Lin Fangfang tore open the packaging, took out a fried dough cake, and handed it to Zhao Laidi.
Zhao Laidi quickly took the fried dough and ate it in big bites.
"Laidi, that's for Mom to eat."
Just then, Zhao Di and Zhao Yuan arrived home and saw Lai Di eating fried dough sticks.
"We're back, let's all eat together."
Lin Fangfang smiled and said to Zhao Yuan and Zhao Zhaodi.
"Nana is asleep."
Zhao Yuan looked at the baby sleeping in the cradle, bent down and kissed her little cheek. He truly loved his three daughters.
The two eldest daughters, in particular, are like everyone else's daughters—they never have to worry about anything. The youngest daughter eats and sleeps, and doesn't cry after sleeping; she only whimpers when she's hungry or needs a diaper change. These three daughters are typical examples of children who repay kindness.
Thinking back to my past life, my little devil used to cry and scream almost every day, and the whole building could hear him. He didn't stop crying until he entered junior high school, but then he started to rebel. He never made things easy for his parents; he was a typical troublemaker.
Here, have one too.
Lin Fangfang handed Zhaoyuan a fried dough cake.
Zhao Yuan took the fried dough and ate it in big bites. It was really fragrant and sweet. His stomach was empty, so eating one was really delicious.
Zhao Zhaodi also took the fried dough and started eating it. The two sisters even licked the oil off their fingers.
The whole family sat together happily eating fried dough sticks, enjoying a peaceful and idyllic moment.
"Fangfang, I'm going to Xiongxiong Fireworks Factory tomorrow. I won't be back until the day after tomorrow."
Zhao Yuan ate the fried dough sticks while talking to Lin Fangfang.
Which township is Xiongxiong Fireworks Factory located in?
Lin Fangfang asked.
"It's in Yaoshan Township. You have to transfer in the county. I'll go there tomorrow to take a look. I plan to switch to the fireworks business in the future. Xiongxiong Fireworks is a very large fireworks factory."
Zhao Yuan said.
"You've made your decision, what will you do with the bamboo baskets from now on?"
"I asked," Lin Fangfang said. Lin Fangfang trusted her man completely; she had initially chosen Zhaoyuan because of his intelligence and quick wit.
“I’m not making bamboo baskets anymore after I finish this month’s orders. I think selling fireworks is a good business opportunity. After you finish your postpartum period, we’ll raise more pigs. I’ll make the pig feed. You can raise a dozen pigs at home by yourself. With Zhaodi and Laidi’s help, you should be able to manage.”
Zhao Yuan said.
After finishing the fried dough sticks, Zhao Zhaodi busied herself starting a fire to cook. Everyone's stomachs were rumbling, as they had eaten breakfast earlier that day.
After finishing his fried dough, Zhao Yuan wiped his hands and walked towards the main room while talking. He sat on the bench and continued weaving bamboo baskets.
"You make the decision. But since you're not farming this year and you've also given up the bamboo basket job, if raising pigs results in losses, your family might not even have enough to eat."
Lin Fangfang said with some concern.
"If you raise pigs according to my method, the possibility of losing money is very low. Sometimes a single order of fireworks can earn more than I make in a year weaving baskets."
Zhao Yuan said as he wove a bamboo basket.
"As long as you stop associating with those people, I will support whatever you do. Even if you fail, I will not blame you if my child and I have to beg for food."
Lin Fangfang said, her voice choked with emotion.
"I'm sorry, I was really a jerk a while ago. Don't worry, it won't happen again. I won't let you and the children go hungry."
Hearing Lin Fangfang's tearful words, Zhao Yuan felt a pang of heartache. He continued weaving the bamboo basket with rapid hand movements.
After dinner, everyone went about their own business, and as darkness fell, they all went to bed early, and the night passed without incident.
The next day, just as dawn was breaking, Zhao Yuan got up and headed to Xiongxiong Fireworks Factory. He knew that Xiongxiong Fireworks Factory would later become one of the earliest listed fireworks companies. To get from Zhao Yuan's home to Xiongxiong Fireworks Factory, he had to transfer in the county. There was only one bus a day, highlighting the inconvenience of transportation in those days. In the 21st century, the journey from Zhao Yuan's home to Xiongxiong Fireworks Factory would only take two hours by car, but now it took a whole day of travel.
Once we arrived in the county, we took a bus to Yaoshan Township.
Xiongxiong Fireworks Factory is located on a hillside between the county seat and Yaoshan Township. When we arrived at the entrance of Xiongxiong Fireworks Factory, the ticket seller shouted.
"We've arrived at Xiongxiong Fireworks Factory."
Zhao Yuan got out of the car and walked towards Xiongxiong Fireworks Factory.
There is a small house at the entrance of Xiongxiong Fireworks Factory, where an old man sits. That is the guardhouse at the entrance of the fireworks factory.
Zhao Yuan went up and knocked on the door.
"Uncle, I'd like to see your factory manager, Mr. Zou. I made an appointment with him to come over today."
"Your name is Zhaoyuan, right?"
The old man asked.
"Yes."
Zhao Yuan said.
"Director Zou is waiting for you in the first office on the left side of this building."
The old man opened the door and pointed to a one-story building in front of him.
Zhao Yuan walked into the fireworks factory and headed toward Director Zou's office.
