Chapter 6 Sleepless Night
Chapter 6 Sleepless Night
……
In the basement.
With the help of the incredibly strong and energetic Yun Yu, a makeshift bathroom was quickly built. Because water was limited, Seele simply wiped herself with a damp cloth and then went to sleep.
Even so, when Seele woke up the next day, she was noticeably more energetic because she had cleaned herself. As for how much more energetic she was, it was probably just the amount that made Yun look back on her so often.
This time, however, Seele had gotten used to his gaze and was even a little delighted.
The third day of the journey.
Yun Fuyu left the tap running to collect some water, then asked for directions to the Sea of Seele before continuing his long journey with Seele.
Seele explained that this was the outskirts of a city on the southern border of the Mu Continent, actually less than ten kilometers from the ocean. Having witnessed the power of the clouds and rain, Seele mustered her courage and was willing to venture further afield. So they readily agreed and set off.
But they were still too hasty. Ten kilometers is indeed not a lot; Yun Fuyu has a physical enhancement buff, and Xi'er has a mental resilience buff, so walking ten kilometers round trip in a day is definitely not difficult. But that's based on the premise of smooth roads built with modern infrastructure!
Now, if they leave human settlements and walk in the wilderness where they can't distinguish the roads, and even occasionally encounter Honkai Beasts, they are considered very capable if they can walk ten kilometers a day.
The worst part is that they only realized this when they saw the sea in the distance and the sunset on its surface.
Xi'er felt somewhat guilty, but Yun Fuyu felt even more guilty. Although Xi'er was more familiar with the situation, she was, after all, a fragile girl, and he shouldn't have taken her running around like that.
It's not that Xi'er is a burden, but Yun Fuyu doesn't want to see Xi'er suffer. He wants Xi'er to have a better life, it's that simple.
"There's no other way, we'll have to sleep in the wild tonight."
Yun Fuyu helped Xier tend the fire, his mind elsewhere as he pondered how to resolve the safety issue. This place was near the sea, and Honkai Beasts were bound to roam freely. If anything were to happen, he would never forgive himself.
Once the fire had calmed down, Seele let out a long sigh of relief. Her lovely face was covered in several streaks of ash, but it wasn't dirty at all; instead, it made her look even more charming and delicate.
However, this was just Yun Fuyu's idea. Xi'er had experience in starting fires and knew that her face must be covered in dirt, so she decided to go to the beach alone.
Yun Fuyu naturally disagreed with splitting up; that was clearly the kind of suicidal behavior the main characters in a horror movie would do! But Xier hesitated before finally speaking, "Um, Xier wants to take a shower..."
"Oh, taking a bath."
Then there is nothing to say.
Yun Fuyu instructed, "I'll wait for you to come back around here. If anything happens, be sure to call me immediately!"
Seele smiled and nodded, then ran off, her steps light and cheerful.
Yun Fuyu also kept her spirits up, fearing that something unexpected might happen.
However, nothing unexpected actually happened.
When Seele returned to the temporary camp, she was carrying a giant crab. This thing was probably stronger than a Breakthrough-class Honkai Beast, but Seele easily took it down and even brought it back to study whether it was edible.
Yun Fuyu: "Xier is amazing! I'm not sure I could beat this thing."
Seele gently brushed a strand of hair behind her ear and smiled slightly: "I was just lucky. When I saw this guy, he was concentrating on building his nest. I quietly approached and ambushed him, and succeeded in one go."
The girl's short hair was still a little damp and messy, and her fair skin appeared rosy and alluring in the firelight. Her smiling face and gentle voice flowed like a spring, bringing a sense of peace to the heart, and even making one want to move closer to her.
Yun Fuyu sat beside Xier, picked up the large crab, and examined it carefully. This was likely an animal infected by Honkai, not a pure silicon-based Honkai beast. In other words, this thing was probably edible.
How should crabs be eaten? Especially in these current, less-than-ideal conditions...
After a moment's thought, Yun Fuyu chose the simplest cooking method—damn! ...No, it's roasting!
Seele definitely has Honkai energy resistance; that stigma is irrefutable proof. Yun Fuyu, however, still had doubts. He collected the juices that dripped from the crab while it was grilling, let them cool, and then applied them to the back of his hand. After a while, there was no reaction, which reassured him somewhat.
The crab weighed at least five pounds and was as wide as Seele's shoulder. Its shell gradually turned red during roasting, then stained black with smoke, making it rather unappealing.
Xi'er watched with a faint smile as Yun Fuyu busied himself in a flurry of activity.
He carefully pried the crab open along its shell. The white meat inside wasn't fully cooked; some parts were still like soft mud. After a moment's hesitation and looking around, a good idea suddenly came to him.
Dig a pit in the ground and move some of the embers from the fire into it. Wrap the large crab in a dozen or so bright green, unidentified large leaves, and sprinkle a little water between the layers just in case. Throw the crab into the fire pit, then cover it with a few more large leaves, sprinkle some water between the layers again, and move some more embers over it. That's it.
Having accidentally burned himself, Yun Fuyu grimaced and pitifully begged Xi'er for help. Xi'er shook her head helplessly, but didn't refuse. A surge of milky white light then vanished the red mark on the back of his hand.
After a while, the crab was taken out of the fire pit and it was gratifying to find that it wasn't burnt, but rather just right. Seafood from the sea doesn't need any seasoning; it naturally has a salty taste. This giant crab, which had undergone a complete transformation, was the best of the best. Not only was its meat tender and chewy, but it also tasted better than the seafood I usually eat.
But it's also possible that he was simply hungry? Or perhaps he was with Seele?
Under Seele's guidance, the two devoured all the edible parts of the giant crab at lightning speed. Finally, they were eyeing the last remaining claw, neither willing to give way. So they decided to have the fairest competition in the world to settle the score!
"Stone!"
"Scissors!"
"cloth!"
Yun Fuyu extended his index finger, thumb, and pinky finger, facing Seele's outstretched palm, and said smugly, "You don't understand, do you? This is called Spock, Spockbeak!"
Xi'er: "..."
She didn't argue or defend herself, but instead smiled and said, "Okay, congratulations, you won."
She lifted the crab claw, cracked the tip, pulled out the meat inside slightly, and held it to Yun Fuyu's lips, tilting her head and smiling: "Eat up, this is the winner's prize."
This time, Yun Fuyu was speechless. He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but Xier shoved the crab claw into his mouth without even giving him a chance to refuse.
She sucked the meat out with great relish; its tenderness was beyond question. She reluctantly sucked on her fingers, gave an awkward smile under Xi'er's teasing gaze, and quickly went to wash her hands.
When Yun Fuyu returned, Xi'er was already asleep against the palm tree. Her little mouth was slightly open as she breathed, and her cuteness was practically ingrained in her very being. Every move she made, every smile, even her name was full of cuteness.
Yun Fuyu longed to be close to Xi'er, to touch her hair, to pinch her cheeks, to gently hug her... but he did none of that. He simply leaned against another tree, then calmed himself down and meditated (daydreaming), while also remaining alert to his surroundings, until he couldn't bear it any longer, and with a lowered head, he drifted off to sleep.
In my dream, even though I couldn't see anything clearly, I was just so happy.
