Chapter 238 Mrs. Zhou
Chapter 238 Mrs. Zhou
On Wednesday, they came out of the Civil Affairs Bureau after receiving their marriage certificate.
Zhou Chiye held the red marriage certificate tightly, his fingertips repeatedly stroking the gold-embossed words "Marriage Certificate," and he couldn't hide the smile on his lips.
“You are now legally recognized Mrs. Zhou.” He turned his head to look at Yunxia, his eyes shining brightly, and reached out to put her hand into his pocket to warm it.
Yunxia felt the warmth of his palm as her fingertips touched it, letting him hold it. Her gaze fell on the two red books, the gold lettering standing out brightly in the sunlight.
She suddenly felt that all her previous hesitation and unease had found a place to settle down at this moment.
She actually got married? Really... they got their marriage certificate.
She used to think that marriage was something unfamiliar and distant, but as time went by, she became less and less interested in it.
I feel it doesn't matter whether I have it or not, and I've even thought that it wouldn't matter if I lived alone for the rest of my life. If I really wanted to get married, I probably would have to wait until I was forty.
But she never expected that at only twenty-nine years old, she would get married so smoothly, become someone else's wife, and have a little life quietly sprouting beside her.
The sun cast long shadows of the two of them, and its warm light enveloped them, dispelling the chill of the morning.
"What are you thinking about? You're not regretting it, are you?" Zhou Chiye asked, narrowing his eyes as he looked at Yunxia, who was standing to the side in a daze.
Yunxia looked at the man beside her, who had his baseball cap pulled low but couldn't hide the excitement in his eyes, and deliberately dragged out her words, half-jokingly saying, "I do regret it a little. I feel like I let you off too easy right after we got the marriage certificate."
Zhou Chiye's smile froze instantly. He tightened his grip on the red certificate, his tone tinged with urgency and displeasure: "It's no use regretting it now. I have the certificate in my hands, and the law recognizes it. You can't run away even if you want to."
Seeing that he was really anxious, Yunxia smiled and reached out to tug at the brim of his hat: "Just kidding. You're acting like you've been stepped on."
"It just feels a bit unreal."
Zhou Chiye pulled her closer: "From today onwards, you'll see me every time you wake up. After a while, it'll feel real."
"I'll take you somewhere in a bit."
Yunxia: "Where to?"
Zhou Chiye didn't say anything more, he just led her into the car.
The car drove out of the city and finally stopped in front of a villa area surrounded by greenery.
Zhou Chiye got out of the car first, walked around to the passenger side and opened the car door for Yunxia. He carefully took her hand.
"Let me show you our wedding room." His voice was filled with excitement as he led her to the deepest building.
Yunxia paused for a moment as she looked at the familiar area sign.
This is a well-known low-density villa area in the west of the city. It has a good location and strong privacy. People know how sought-after the land here is, and the house prices are astonishingly high.
“You…” Yunxia couldn’t help but say.
Zhou Chiye remained silent, only curtsied as he continued to lead her inside.
The moment you push open the ornate iron gate, a spacious garden comes into view.
The lawn had just been mowed, with a few rose bushes in full bloom along the edge. Further in was a light-colored building with rattan tables and chairs outside the French windows. Sunlight streamed onto the wooden floor, making it dazzlingly warm.
“I’ve only done a simple renovation inside; I haven’t dared to buy any furniture yet.” Zhou Chiye led her inside, his voice very soft: “I know you like a simple style. Once you’re feeling better, we’ll pick out a sofa and a bed together. I’ve even reserved a spot for the nursery, right next to the master bedroom, where the natural light is excellent.”
Upon entering the house, one finds a spacious living room with a light gray carpet, soft sofas by the floor-to-ceiling windows, and a small tea room converted from the balcony, with an artificial lake visible outside the window.
Zhou Chiye led her around, his fingertips touching the pre-reserved opening for the nursery on the master bedroom wall: "The designer said that the lighting would be better if we opened this up. If you don't think the layout is suitable, we can change it."
Yunxia walked to the window, looking at the distant lake view, her fingertips unconsciously stroking the window frame.
Zhou Chiye held her hand, the warmth of his palm soothing her: "If you feel dissatisfied with anything, we can change it anytime, we'll listen to you."
She hadn't expected that he had arranged everything.
Yunxia looked up at him and said, "You've arranged all of this, what else could I possibly be dissatisfied with?"
Zhou Chiye was a little anxious: "Are you unhappy? Because I didn't ask you beforehand? I just wanted to give you a surprise."
"If you don't like it here, we can buy a house elsewhere, whatever you like, whatever you prefer."
Yunxia felt a warmth in her heart: "I didn't mean that. I just thought you were moving very fast and were in such a hurry."
Zhou Chiye breathed a sigh of relief: "Of course I was anxious. We've already registered our marriage, how can we not even have a wedding house? Not only do we have a wedding house, but after we meet each other's parents and complete all the procedures, how about we hold the wedding?"
Yunxia pursed her lips, lowered her eyes and thought for a moment: "Okay."
Zhou Chiye smiled, then suddenly took two steps back, knelt on one knee, and took a box out of his pocket: "Yunxia, marry me."
The box was opened, revealing a diamond ring the size of a pigeon's egg. There were no extra small diamonds piled up; instead, a perfectly cut main diamond was set in a simple and elegant platinum setting.
Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating the diamonds with a dazzling yet understated brilliance, as if a handful of shattered stars were firmly locked onto the metal.
"We got our marriage certificate in such a rush that we didn't have time for a proper ceremony," Zhou Chiye looked up at her, his voice tight. "Yunxia, even though we've already registered our marriage, I still want to formally ask you one last time: are you willing to marry me and be my Mrs. Zhou for the rest of your life?"
Looking at the undisguised seriousness in his eyes, and glancing down at the diamond ring that, though simply designed, was dazzling enough, Yunxia couldn't help but smile and extend her left hand: "I've been willing for a long time."
The moment the platinum ring touched her fingertip, Zhou Chiye visibly breathed a sigh of relief. He smiled and pushed the ring to the base of her finger. As he stood up, he pulled her into his arms, resting his chin on the top of her head. His voice was full of satisfaction: "Now, the person, the certificate, and the ring are all complete."
"I'm just one step away from meeting your parents, but I'm suddenly a little worried. What if they don't like me?"
Yunxia: "I rejected you so many times before, but you still shamelessly came to me. Do you think I'll back down just because of a few words from my parents?"
"Besides, we've already registered our marriage."
Zhou Chiye became somewhat smug: "So it's fortunate that I didn't give up, and now I've obediently become my Mrs. Zhou."
"I can definitely handle things with your parents, don't worry."
