Chapter 393 The Mechanical God Has No Heart 16
"So now it's my turn to ask questions?" K011 tilted its head, and the power cord plugged into it moved slightly.
“Yes, go ahead and ask,” Feng Yuhan said. “What do you want to ask?”
"I want to ask—what is the biggest difference between humans and other animals?" K011 tilted his head. "Many human behaviors have corresponding counterparts in animals, so besides the ability to create and use tools, what do humans have that animals don't?"
“There are quite a lot of these,” Feng Yuhan said, twirling her pen. “Humans can think, create many things, and explore the unknown.”
“Yes,” Wang responded, giving an example. “If you give a typewriter to a monkey, the monkey will only break it. But if you give a typewriter to a human, the human will poke around on it a few times and then start typing.”
K011 blinked, presumably trying to understand Wang Yinghui and Feng Yuhan's words. Then, K011 looked at "Lin Huanming," its camera eyes analyzing the expression on Lin Huanming's face, and asked, "So, what was Professor Lin's answer?"
When K011 asked him a question, Lu Renkui kept a straight face as he was the original owner of Lin Huanming's character, while his mind was frantically thinking about what the difference was between humans and animals.
K011's question to us was definitely not a simple question about the difference between animals and humans. Lu Renkui began to speculate on K011's meaning in her mind—she had seen K011's thought process, and the answer K011 wanted was not about behavior, but about the difference between humans and animals in terms of thought.
Otherwise, he wouldn't have looked at her and asked her for the answer after hearing Feng Yuhan and Wang Yinghui's responses.
“The difference between humans and animals, I think, is that humans possess memories,” Lu Renkui replied after a five-second brainstorming session. “And also, the desire to leave behind proof that we were here.”
"Memory?" K011 tilted its head. "But many animals have memories too. Fish can remember a month's worth of memories, and the memories of sea lions, elephants, and chimpanzees can even surpass those of humans. Is this really what makes humans unique from animals?"
“If we’re just talking about remembering things, human memory isn’t exactly outstanding.” Lu Renkui bent down to tidy up K011’s messy wig. “But human memory is heavily influenced by emotions.”
"Emotional color? Does it refer to emotional connection? Animals have that too. Just a couple of days ago, there was an incident where a dog that had been separated from its former owner for many years recognized its former owner again in a crowd." K011 tilted its head.
“Animals have emotional connections because they have long-term memories of being with those humans, and therefore they remember those humans.” Lu Renkui straightened K011’s messy wig and looked into K011’s camera eyes as he said, “Humans will remember someone they have never had contact with before and will not have much contact with in the future.”
"Would you remember someone you've never met before and wouldn't have much contact with again?" K011 said this sentence word by word, as if he had entered a deep thought.
“Yes,” Lu Renkui said.
"Why?" K011 asked.
“There are quite a few reasons,” Lu Renkui replied. “Let me give you one of the more common examples.”
“Let’s call this person A. If A saves someone in an extremely dangerous situation, A might be featured in the news. Some people might see this news and be moved by it, which would leave a deep impression on A who saved the person.”
"If similar events occur later, then someone will remember that A did the same thing."
