Chapter 38 3 Multiple Illegitimate Children
Chapter 38 3 Multiple Illegitimate Children
"Old man?" Lu Renkui realized who Ankadis was talking about—Ankadis's father.
Ankadis's hatred for his father had reached a certain level. After all, the original text describes Ankadis spending his free time scattering his father's ashes for fun.
After the ashes were scattered, they were collected again, which resulted in Ankadis's father's urn becoming heavier and heavier with each collection.
“There are many planets in the inheritance, and Lisa can choose first. After she finishes her selection and takes the exam, she can officially gain the right to manage those planets,” Ankadis said, while in his mind he began to think about how to prevent his more than three hundred half-siblings from taking his sister’s inheritance.
Let's find a chance to kill them all. No, Lisa will be angry if she finds out. Let's think of another way, another method. Ankadis started considering which companies to raid first.
Lu Renkui recalled the original text's description that Ankadis's father had a total of 387 sons and daughters—he was really prolific; it seemed that choosing the inheritance first was quite advantageous.
After waiting a while, the spaceship entered a planet that appeared to have little vegetation from the front. When the spaceship got closer to the ground, Lu Renkui could clearly see what the planet's surface looked like—it was covered with tall buildings, devoid of any plants, and exuded a high-tech feel everywhere.
But the spaceship didn't land on any tall buildings; instead, it landed on the other side of the planet: a place with lots of plants, which were clearly ornamental, and many villas were situated there.
The spaceship landed in front of the largest villa. Lu Renkui looked at the villa, which was the size of ten football fields, and had only one thought in his mind: it doesn't necessarily mean the school is rich, but rather that the original owner's family was originally quite wealthy.
Upon entering the villa, Lu Renkui could immediately sense the atmosphere of someone having died—because black cloths were stretched everywhere, making the entire room very dark. The people inside were mostly dressed in black, and at first glance, they looked like a huge, pilling black rag splattered with various colors.
Inside sat a total of 301 men and women aged 40 to 20—303 if you include Ancadis and Maria Elisa—each with a furrowed brow or wiping away tears with a handkerchief, as if they thought that this would allow them to inherit a larger share of the estate.
Upon seeing the only legitimate son and adopted daughter arrive, the man in the middle, wearing a black tie, a black suit, and gold-rimmed glasses, stood up, holding a stack of documents in his hand.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I am the notary in charge of distributing Mr. Ottolai's estate," the man in gold-framed glasses said solemnly. "The esteemed Mr. Ottolai passed away yesterday, and in my hand is his will, which is crucial in determining the distribution of this estate."
The notary pulled out a piece of paper and read aloud what was written on it: "Of my estate, all the planets, real estate, and all shares of my company shall be given to my only legitimate son, Ancadis, if he would be willing to share them with his other siblings—but he will absolutely not do so—the rest shall be inherited by my adopted daughter, Maria Elisa."
The crying inside the house suddenly stopped, followed by a cacophony of curses, complaints, and questions.
"This must have been written by Ankadis! It's a forged will!!" The most agitated of the 300 illegitimate children present was Ultraman, the oldest among them. He believed that as the first illegitimate child, even if he didn't receive the largest share of the inheritance, he should at least be left with some valuables. How could he get nothing? This is so unfair!
The other illegitimate children shared this idea to varying degrees.
“No, this was written by Mr. Ottoray himself. We have a clear video of him writing this will, as well as eight backup videos. Each one can withstand examination by a professional institution.” The notary refuted Ottoray’s doubts.
"Then why should that bastard picked up from the trash can get inheritance rights?! She has no blood relation to my father whatsoever." A voice came from the crowd, clearly feeling that it was unfair that Maria Elisa, Otolay's adopted daughter with no blood relation to him, could inherit a portion of the valuable estate.
Other illegitimate children also began to echo this sentiment.
Ankadis glanced discreetly at the place where the voice had originated, but seeing that they were all dissatisfied with Lisa's ability to inherit the estate, he decided not to look for the original person, but to deal with all the blood relatives instead.
“Oh, it’s very simple. Because Miss Maria Elisa Ottolai had a foster relationship with Mr. Ottolai, it is perfectly reasonable for Miss Maria Elisa Ottolai to inherit a portion of Mr. Ottolai’s property based on this foster relationship.” The notary then waved the will in his hand. “Mr. Ottolai instructed us before his death to distribute his estate in accordance with the law.”
"As for why you weren't included—it's because two months ago, Mr. Ottolai decided to randomly select 100 people from among you to have a paternity test done. The results showed that 87 of those 100 people were not related to him by blood."
The notary glanced around at the other 302 people in the room and continued, “Old Mr. Ottolai was very angry and killed those 87 people. He also made a will leaving all his property to Young Master Ancadis Ottolai and Miss Maria Elisa Ottolai—because he was unsure whether he was related to you by blood.”
"If any of you have any objections, you can go to the hospital for a paternity test. However, since Mr. Ottolai is dead, you can only ask Young Master Ottolai to cooperate with you. But that can only prove that you have a certain kinship, not that you are definitely Mr. Ottolai's biological children—who knows which family party you were born of? Therefore, the legal right of inheritance still belongs only to Young Master Ancadis Ottolai and Miss Maria Elisa Ottolai."
Upon hearing that this was Mr. Ottolai's idea, the other 300 illegitimate children fell silent, but Ottolai still tried to argue: "What use are they to so much inheritance? Why don't we share it?"
"This matter is no longer under our jurisdiction," the notary said with a shrug. "You can go and talk to the young master and young lady yourselves."
As soon as these words were spoken, all eyes turned to Ancadis and "Maria Elisa".
Lu Renkui was wondering if she could open the window to let in some fresh air, since it was too stuffy inside the villa. But when she heard Maria Elisa's name, she snapped out of her reverie and continued listening. Then she heard the lawyer asking the other illegitimate children to talk to Maria Elisa in person about the distribution of the inheritance.
Lu Renkui gasped. He seemed to have just heard that he was inheriting everything that Ankadis had inherited. What could that "everything" be?
This seems to be an extremely wealthy person. If houses, companies, and planets aren't left to Maria Elisa, then what else could be left for her? Antiques? Gold and silver? Jewelry? Or something else entirely, but it's unlikely to be cash. Thinking this, Lu Renkui somehow heard a sigh in his mind.
Seeing that everyone else was looking this way, Ankadis silently stood in front of "Maria Elisa" and glared at those who were trying to find a breakthrough through "Maria Elisa".
“I’ll go to the room with Lisa to discuss the distribution of the inheritance. You guys go ahead.” Ankadis said as he pushed “Maria Elisa” into the room.
The intense gazes of the other illegitimate children were completely blocked the moment the room door closed. Lu Renkui breathed a sigh of relief; she now knew what it felt like to have a thorn in her side when those people were staring at her back.
Seeing his beloved sister still standing there, Ankadis waved to her, signaling her to come over.
Lu Renkui walked over and found dozens of planetary contracts on the table.
Lu Renkui raised his eyebrows, widened his eyes, and slightly opened his mouth as he flipped through the dozens of contracts laid out on the table. Each one was visibly thick, and even the thinnest one was about thirty pages long.
“These are…” Looking at the various planets on it, Lu Renkui already had a guess in his mind.
“Lisa, pick whichever you like. Don’t worry about picking too many. I have plenty of planets here, a few more won’t make a difference,” Ankadis said with a smile.
Lu Renkui flipped through the 30 contracts one by one; they were all either mineral-rich planets or habitable worlds. No matter which one he chose, the annual income would be astronomical for Lu Renkui, especially for a planet that produced oil and various minerals. The annual income from that planet could support a person for ten lifetimes, each lasting over 100 years, with plenty to eat and drink and still have money to spare.
"Is that all? I remember there were other types of planets." A voice appeared. Lu Renkui was certain that there was no one else in the room, so the voice could only be coming from inside her head.
"That voice sounds familiar," Lu Renkui thought to himself.
The moment that voice appeared in his head, Lu Renkui heard the voice of System WQBYRZM. Judging from the volume and tone, System WQBYRZM was currently in a state of panic, collapse, and disbelief: "Why are you awake?! Weren't you just sleeping?!"
Upon hearing this, Lu Renkui knew that the situation had changed. He picked up a contract, pointed to a chair in the corner of the room, and said, "This looks good. I'll sit there and take a look."
After Lu Renkui sat down, he pretended to look through the contract, but in reality, he was listening to what the system WQBYRZM in his consciousness space was saying to Maria Elisa, who had already woken up.
"Who are you? Why are you inside my body? I was clearly in the study room, so why am I home now? Something got into my head! Can you explain?" In Maria Elisa's consciousness space, the awakened Maria Elisa was looking at the system WQBYRZM curiously, grabbing the system WQBYRZM's pink twin tails with both hands, and one question after another popped out of Maria Elisa's mouth.
System WQBYRZM collapsed to the ground, looking up at the starry sky above her consciousness space in despair—this was the first time she had used the function to extend her sleep. Although she had expected the original owner's consciousness to wake up, she hadn't expected it to wake up so quickly.
Lu Renkui pressed the contract against his head, closed his eyes and pretended to be too tired to sleep, then entered his consciousness space.
Maria Elisa was still trying to figure out why the system WQBYRZM had pink hair when she felt another person coming up behind her.
Maria Elisa turned around and saw a girl standing in front of her, wearing a gray hoodie, a black short-sleeved shirt over it, and reddish-brown pants. She had a mole on each cheek and a long braid hanging down her chest.
As soon as Maria Elisa saw that a new person had arrived, she immediately left the system WQBYRZM, walked up to Lu Renkui, and began to curiously fiddle with the braids in front of Lu Renkui's body.
"Why are you inside my body? Why do you speak and move with my body?" Maria Elisa asked while playing with Lu Renkui's braids.
"Yes, we're on a mission." Lu Renkui felt there was nothing to hide, so he answered truthfully. After all, it was indeed quite immoral to take over someone's body without their consent.
"Mission? What mission?"
"At first, our mission was to keep you from dying, but now our mission is to help someone find a partner."
"Did you come here to save me in the first place?" Maria Elisa immediately grasped the key point.
“But you can’t keep occupying my body forever.” Maria Elisa raised her white-golden head and looked into Lu Renkui’s eyes with her golden eyes. “Although Anx hasn’t noticed yet, have you noticed? He’s already watching you.”
Lu Renkui was startled, opened her eyes, and looked up to meet Ankadis's eyes directly.
When Ankadis realized he had been discovered, he didn't panic. He simply looked up casually and then lowered his head to continue working.
Having discovered that Maria and Elisa were telling the truth, Lu Renkui returned to the consciousness space and asked, "What do you want to do? Do you want your body back?"
"Hmm, so you just need to do the tasks, right? That means you don't necessarily have to occupy my body all the time." Maria Elisa tilted her head and looked at Lu Renkui. "Tell me who you want to find a partner for, and I can help you. And Anke won't find out."
Lu Renkui breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing Maria Elisa's words—it turned out she just wanted to regain control of her body, which was normal; no one wants their body to be occupied by an unknown outsider.
"Um, don't kick us out, okay?" Lu Renkui repeatedly reminded Maria Elisa before handing back control of her body. "We don't intend to harm you, so please help us complete our mission, Miss Otolay."
