Chapter 137 Bus Explosion
Chapter 137 Bus Explosion
The morning sun streamed through the curtains. Chen Shuo yawned and rubbed his eyes as he slowly walked out of the room. His hair was still a little messy, and he casually grabbed his clothes and put them on, his movements looking lazy and casual.
Memories of last night flooded back to him, and he couldn't help but let out a meaningful smile. He thought to himself, "Last night... seemed a little crazy..." The corners of his mouth gradually rose, with a hint of pride and satisfaction. "But fortunately, I was more skilled than him and didn't suffer any loss."
When he stepped into the living room, he was suddenly stunned. The scene before him really surprised him.
Sonoko and Haibara Ai, who always loved to stay in bed, were now fully dressed and sitting on the sofa. They had obviously gotten up early, but both of them had dark circles under their eyes and looked quite exhausted. Sonoko folded her arms over her chest, slumped on the sofa, her head resting lightly on the backrest, her eyes staring blankly at the ceiling, as if her soul had left her body. Haibara Ai sat beside her, holding a cup of hot drink, her elbows resting on her knees, her head slightly lowered, looking like she would fall asleep at any moment.
Chen Shuo raised his eyebrows, paused in surprise, glanced at the two of them, and then jokingly said, "Wow, the sun is rising from the west? You guys got up earlier than me?"
Sonoko raised her head weakly, looked at him, and complained in a hoarse voice: "Don't mention it, you and Xiaolan are too much... We both didn't sleep well the whole night!" As she spoke, she rubbed her temples hard, and the fatigue on her face was beyond words.
Huiyuan Ai gently sipped her hot drink and added indifferently, "I thought the sound insulation of this house was pretty good, but it seems I overestimated it." She raised her head and looked at Chen Shuo calmly, but her words were tinged with a hint of sarcasm, "You guys were really energetic last night."
Even Chen Shuo, who usually remained impassive, felt a slight heat rising from his face at the sarcasm of Sonoko and Haibara Ai. He coughed softly, trying to mask his embarrassment, only to find two sharp, yet somewhat playful, gazes fixed on him. He simply chose to ignore the two malicious girls and headed towards the kitchen, his tone a touch of forced composure: "Xiaolan might be a while away from getting up. I'll... make you some coffee."
His voice was a little deep, but his steps were somewhat unnatural. His back looked more hurried than usual, even stumbling slightly, looking both awkward and funny.
The rich aroma of coffee soon wafted from the kitchen, and the coldness in the air seemed to be dispelled a little, while the two girls in the living room were still secretly enjoying the joy of their "victory".
---
The morning light poured into the living room, and the warm golden light enveloped Mao Lilan who had just gotten up.
Yawning, she walked out of the room, her sleepy appearance appearing both lazy and charming. She wore only a loose shirt, the hem of which covered her thighs. It was clearly Chen Shuo's, and the slightly loose cut accentuated her slender and graceful figure. The snow-white shirt outlined her graceful collarbone, and the slightly rolled cuffs revealed her fair arms. Each step was filled with a natural rhythm.
Because she had just gotten up, her long hair was a little messy, with a few strands hanging down beside her cheeks, adding a touch of casual charm. She walked to the dining table, her expression still a little dazed, obviously not fully awake yet, but the gentle aura that she inadvertently revealed made people unable to look away.
However, when she finally came to her senses and saw Sonoko and Haibara Ai sitting at the dining table, she froze. She was stunned for a few seconds, her eyes meeting their strange, teasing and playful gazes. Only then did she realize what she was wearing, and her cheeks suddenly turned as red as a ripe apple.
Yuanzi raised her eyebrows, a meaningful smile on her lips, and scanned her from head to toe with a teasing tone: "Ah, Xiaolan, this outfit is quite... special!"
Although Huiyuan Ai didn't say anything, there was a hint of amusement in her eyes. She raised her hand and pretended to take a sip of coffee casually, with the corner of her mouth slightly raised, watching the show silently.
Chen Shuo almost buried his head in the newspaper, pretending to be an ostrich, but the occasional look in his eyes revealed everything.
Mao Lilan panicked instantly. She had never expected that these two people who were usually considered "bedridden nails" would get up early today. She also had no idea that she would be careless and walk out wearing Chen Shuo's clothes.
"Good morning, Xiao-Zongzi, Xiao Ai..." she stammered, her voice filled with embarrassment and shyness. Then, she frantically tugged at the hem of her shirt, trying to hide her embarrassment.
However, the more she did this, the more teasing the eyes of Sonoko and Haibara Ai became, as if they were waiting for her next reaction.
Mao Lilan really couldn't stand this kind of atmosphere anymore. She lowered her head in panic and hurriedly said, "I, I'll go wash up first!" Then she ran to the bathroom like a frightened little rabbit.
Looking at her hurriedly leaving figure, Yuanzi finally couldn't help laughing, holding her belly, her eyes full of mischievous smiles: "Hahaha, Xiaolan's reaction is so cute!"
Huiyuan Ai still maintained her usual indifferent demeanor. She simply put down the cup in her hand and glanced at Chen Shuo: "Perverted uncle!"
Chen Shuo continued to play dead...
---
An hour later, in Chen Shuo's GTR.
The car's heater gently dispelled the winter chill. However, Ran Mouri's cheeks remained flushed in the passenger seat, her shyness clearly still lingering. She lowered her head, her gaze shifting, as she replayed the scene that morning, witnessed by Sonoko and Haibara Ai. The humiliation of being witnessed by her best friends left her feeling completely humiliated.
Chen Shuo glanced at her slightly reddened ears and couldn't help but smile. He held the steering wheel steadily with one hand and gently reached out with the other to hold Lan's hand. His tone was filled with gentle comfort, "Don't worry about it. It's not a big deal. Sonoko and Ai have long forgotten about it."
However, Mao Lilan became even more embarrassed and angry because of this. She turned her head and glared at Chen Shuo, her almond-shaped eyes slightly widened, and her tone was full of anger and embarrassment: "How dare you say that! It's all your fault! If it weren't for you yesterday... I wouldn't be laughed at by them!"
Although her gaze held a note of reproach, it held no harm. Instead, her shy expression and slightly flushed cheeks added a touch of charm. This greatly delighted Chen Shuo, causing him to smile even more happily. He nodded, his tone ingratiating, "Yes, yes, it's indeed my fault. It's all my fault."
Mao Lilan looked at his stubborn attitude, curled her lips helplessly, turned her head away angrily, and ignored him. But Chen Shuo knew that her anger had long since subsided and she was only pretending to be dissatisfied because of shyness.
In the back seat, Sonoko and Haibara Ai had clearly forgotten their morning drama and were now fast asleep together. Sonoko tilted her head, a faint smile playing on the corner of her mouth, while Haibara Ai, her face buried in her scarf, slept peacefully and comfortably, with only the occasional soft breathing sound.
Chen Shuo looked at the two people in the rearview mirror and shook his head helplessly: "Look at them, how soundly they sleep, how can they remember anything about this morning?"
Mao Lilan glanced at the two people in the back seat. Although she didn't respond, the blush on her face faded a little, obviously comforted by Chen Shuo's words. After a while, she secretly glanced at Chen Shuo and whispered, "You... don't be so reckless next time, otherwise I really won't be able to face anyone."
Chen Shuo smiled even more gently when he heard that. He squeezed her hand lightly, and said in a low and doting tone, "Okay, I'll pay attention next time and never embarrass my Xiaolan." His voice was filled with a warm power, as if all problems would become easy for him.
Mao Lilan looked down at their clasped hands. Although she didn't say anything, a slight smile appeared on her lips. The scenery outside the window passed by quickly, and the sunlight shone on the two of them. Everything in the car seemed particularly warm and sweet.
---
The car moved smoothly, the low hum of the engine blending seamlessly with the quiet atmosphere inside. Chen Shuo gripped the steering wheel, his eyes fixed intently on the road ahead. However, as the car emerged from a tunnel, he suddenly noticed a bus parked across the road, blocking it entirely. Even stranger, a group of police officers had gathered at the intersection, seemingly blocking traffic. The scene looked quite tense.
Chen Shuo frowned slightly, slammed on the brakes, and slowly pulled to the side of the road, a look of confusion in his eyes. Just then, a familiar figure approached. It was Sato Miwako, whom he had met several times before. Her expression was slightly serious, and she appeared quite capable. As she approached, she stood at attention and saluted, then said, "Hello, please return the way you came... uh..." She paused, clearly recognizing the two people in the car. "Are you Mr. Chen? And... Xiaolan?"
Mao Lilan, who was sitting in the passenger seat, also saw Sato Miwako and seemed a little surprised and curious: "Officer Sato? What happened? Why is the road ahead blocked?"
The expression on Sato Miwako's face relaxed a little, but before she could answer, Chen Shuo's eyes suddenly changed. He suddenly stretched out a hand and pressed down Mao Lilan's head, quickly lowering her head, and shouted urgently: "Be careful!"
Almost as soon as Chen Shuo finished speaking, a massive explosion ripped through the air. The bus, which was blocking the road ahead, suddenly exploded violently. Flames shot up into the sky, and thick smoke instantly filled the entire intersection. The shockwave from the explosion whipped up a powerful gust of air, like a small earthquake, causing the car windows to vibrate violently.
The explosion startled Sonoko and Haibara Ai in the back seat of the car. Sonoko rubbed her sleepy eyes, her face full of panic: "Wha-what's going on?! What happened?!"
Huiyuan Ai also quickly woke up from her sleep. She glanced at the thick smoke outside the window, her face suddenly darkened, and she asked calmly: "Was it... an explosion just now?"
Mao Lilan obviously hadn't reacted yet. She lowered her head for a few seconds, until the smell of gunpowder seeped in through the car window. She raised her head, staring at the flames in front of her with wide eyes, and her voice was full of obvious panic: "Out front... is that... a bus exploded?!"
Chen Shuo didn't answer immediately, but quickly adjusted his posture, scanning the surroundings with vigilance. After confirming that there wouldn't be a second explosion in the short term, he released his hand from Xiaolan's head and said calmly, "Don't move. The car is safe."
Outside the window, flames and thick smoke were still raging, and the aftermath of the explosion had not yet dissipated. However, Chen Shuo narrowed his eyes and keenly discovered several familiar figures.
